Thanks, it is a 14" ZeroEdge Lamptree and a 250 W Sunpod. I just drilled two small holes in the Sunpod and secured it to the Lamptree with stainless steel hardware. Its really stable, and easily adjustable (vertically).

Hey, my skimmer just crapped out, tried cleaning the pump ect...Does anyone know of a skimmer that will fit in the 1st chamber with no mods?

I would love to know too....My stock skimmer has never worked properly and I am over it.:(

shapphire aquatics just releced some new shots of an updated skimmer that is built for the solana that looks promising also euro-reef may be producing a new nano skimmer that may be suitable for the solana...... you can check out pics of the shapphire at nr dot com

you can always go with the tunze 9002 as well

I heard at Macna that Nanotuners or nanocustoms (whichever you know them as) is going to be coming out with a new skimmer to fit the Solana in the next few months.

keep an eye out for it...they said it will be awesome...will be a recirculating pump.

MY SKIMMER HAS OFFICIALLY DIED> This is my second one....if it has been less than a year for you guys, call Solana, or contact them online...I received one for free for the problems I was having with my first one....now I wonder what they are going to do about this one.

Dude. Your tank looks nice. Did you hear I'm one of the latest Solana owners thanks to MACNA XX and DFS. I'm not sure if I want to use the 250w Sunpod or the 150w Orb.

Anyone elses stock skimmer make wayyy to much noise? It is producing good skimmate but the noise from the sucking air is driving me crazy. I can't wait until euroreef comes out with their nano skimmer.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

-Matthew

I just got this email from Nanotuners.

Jim,
I believe the BC29R skimmer is too large. However, Sapphire is very likely going to be making a skimmer for the Solana based on what he was mentioning to us last weekend while we were at the MACNA trade show in Atlanta. Unfortunately there will probably be a bit of a delay with a Solana skimmer as well as his main line due to the fact that he is based out of Houston and they just got hit hard by hurricane Ike.

I recently picked up a solana w/ a 250w SunPod and am researching live rock and live sand options.

For the live rock, what is a good amount in terms of lbs that will fill up the tank, but not make it all rock? Also, who are some good Internet vendors I can consider? LFS has some rock, but it starts at $7.99 a lb.

Same goes for live rock--how much and what type?

thanks for the advice, its much appreciated.

SG

It all depends upon the source location for the rock as to how dense it is and how much you need. Try to think of a look you would like to achieve for the tank and then find pieces to make it work. Too many just buy pieces of rock and then are stuck with trying to work with what they bought.

Watch a local reef club for someone selling live rock out of a tank and you can usually find a much better deal than 7.99 lb. Just be sure to ask if they are having a problem with any pests.

With a 250 watt halide you will probably need a chiller if you don't already have one.

Just buy "cooked" rocks or base rocks, and then buy a few pieces of live rock to help seed it. Within about 3-6 months, they are all going to be live. $7.99/lb is on the higher end of prices... Just ask around on clubs, usually someone has a stash somewhere or are trying to break down a tank... Just be patient...

The pieces of SPS that i have seem to be doing good so far i just picked up some more pieces that someone was getting rid of, the pink birdsnest didn't make it but that is the only sps that hasn't done well. I have a neon green birdsnest that looks to be finally getting some grow and a dull pink birdnest, teal w/blue tip acro and a tan w/ neon green polyps this one is growing really well. Still waiting to see as they have only been in there a couple days are the Green slimer, blue milli, and a couple misc pieces. I just ordered the 14k Pheonix bulb to see if i can get some better colors.

Here are a couple it is hard to get a front view with the light on my camera is not that great and the middle right under the light always gets really washed out.
