On page 10 of this thread dated 10/16 I posted several pics showing growth comparisons of an SPS coral. The last picture was this one...

This coral had been under the Solaris lights 3 weeks at that time. Now, a month later here's what it looks like...

This was taken moments ago. The growth is quite obvious.

I've been very happy with the Solaris unit. For a first attempt at utilizing LED technology for main display lighting, I think Pat and PFO have a winner. I'm sure future versions will show some tweeking.

My clams, three Crocea, are doing great under the Solaris lights. Here's a pic from yesterday...

They are growing nicely and showing good color. I've got to mention, if they were horses the center one would have to be a Clydesdale. All three were the same size a few months ago. What a horse.

My tank number 2 is not 60 cm. width but 80 cm width. You wrote 60 cm. - that is a little mistake. But i guess that the result is the same = I need two Solaris systems. That gonna be pretty expensive for one tank, I think.

When is the 400 watt Solaris LED System avalible?

Ooops, sorry about the mistake but, you are right, the result is the same.

No deffinite date on the 400 watt yet. Sometime after the first of the year.

This is just such a great idea and soooooooo cool but for now seeing I have a 72" long X 25" wide tank I would need two fixtures at $3300.00 a piece. There is just no way I can spend that much I sure hope they can figure out a way to bring the price down.

Mako56: I agree! The price is to high. I am sure that if the price come down, the Solaris LED System will conqure a significant part of the world, a whole new market of people will use it instead of HQI / MH's if the price comes down.

The price argument has been played out in this forum several times. Solaris is great for some, too expensive for some other configurations. I am enjoying my expensive 36 inch 20k fiixture to this day. Hopefully it becomes so wildly popular that you will be able to buy them for the price of NO flourescent fixtures some day.

No I am not arguing the price its new stuff and that’s what new stuff costs I am just hoping that’s why it does cost so much. I think it is one of the greatest things for this hobby and if I had the cash I would get them tomorrow. I sure hope your right alexmit and want to thank you and the rest that are keeping the technology going so some day they will be around when I am ready. If the price comes down they will become wildly popular almost everyone will switch over.

I think the main feature of this LED fixture is the computer/controller. I am sure they will be selling it without the controller soon for a lot less. I will pay the extra gladly for the awesome features it does now.

these are photos of two acros (don't know their names - anyone can tell me if they want) after having had the Solaris installed for 1 month before and after - if you study them, you will see growth - my tank has gone thru some changes lately besides light - the temp is lower which I believe can slow growth and I have been adjusting salinity which may have an impact - the 6'th mth mark will be fun to see

Thanks for posting those pics. There is definite growth.

I'm putting an order for the 400W as soon as it's available. Not because I need it on this 135 gal but to compare output and to go on top of my new 190 bow front I have planned. I just have to figure out how to sneek it into the house, set it up, stock it and keep it a secret from the wife. :rollface: Actually, I designed a nook in the dinning room that is for the 190 but after building this house and moving from WI to FL, the money thing dried up. Don't let anyone convince you it's cheap to live in FL. It's a myth. :mixed:

The 135 is 24" and the 190 is 30" deep, that's where the 400 will be needed.

I have watched this thread without chiming in (to avoid the engineers) for quite a while just to see how the REAL results were.
I have to admit I'm impressed.
Yes the initial introduction cost is high but so were PC's in the 80's and 90's. I'm sure this will come down in time and efficiency increase as well.
There's no argument fortunately, that this is the wave of the future and probably the answer for many of us. Lower operating cost, less heat, better results.
I'm not a customer of PFO yet but I look forward to purchasing one of these light systems when I can afford to. I'm just glad someone has taken the initiative to advance the hobby .

I was a UA Pipefitter for 40 years out of 394 Madison, WI. How you be? I retired in 2001 at 63, moved to FL a year ago. Setting up a coral fragging, grow out facility. Can't fish every day.

Your right about these lights. They are the wave of the future. I love mine!

Cool Amphib, I'm on the old fart's battle side of the UA lol. I started out as an apprentice at age 41 so it's been a bit of adjusting but I really love it. I've got 2 more years after this one to go and I'll graduate.
I'm out of local 74 in Wilmington, DE.
It's not only cool to meet someone with so much experience in the trade but in the hobby as well . My hat is off to you bro!!!

Good luck on the grow out facility, I really appreciate anyone who is advancing that part of the hobby which eases the impact on the ecology. Just couldn't stay away from the piping could you LOL?
