Do you know the price for the 400 W version?

-andy
Andy,
I talked with Pat yesterday about the 400Ws and the price has not been determined.

hi - I went to your web to see if you had posted anymore Solaris lighting - and saw your orange mushrooms - are these orange recorida? is that their true color - awesome

My orange mushrooms are not recordias. It is their true color and I love them. As far as my light goes, I'm liking it better and better. Everything in the tank seems to be very happy, the overall color of my corals seems to be better and I love the night time glow in the dark. I'll try to take some night pics to show the florescence.

I have not messed with the time on the auto feature myself because my husband likes the moon light feature as well. It seems to be a real bonus :)

jnb, i was looking thru your gallery of pics. the pic labeled "r_e_DSC_3413", is that the solaris? It seems very bright. Is that at full blast with all the LEDs going?

yes, but that pic is meant to show the light spread of the solaris - so it is the solaris but I fed the tank aragaMILK to make the it cloudy, took the picture and then photoshop'd it to make it bright so one could see the light beam/spread. The picture next to it (the one without the e) is the real picture but like has been mentioned on this thread, the pictures of tanks heavy towards 20k show up dimmer and bluer than in real life - my goal it to get a picture of the tank showing what I see but need to get the tripod out to do it.

you have an nice looking tank jnb! looking at your side pics of the solaris, it does not have a very wide spread. how are your corals in the back doing?

the spread is a little more narrow than my previous fixture

all I have at the back really are mushrooms but a smaller monti - I need a few more weeks before I would notice any detrimental effect (if any) but I suspect I will be fine

otherwise I like the spread, it eludes the front side. And life on the bottom, up to the glass is getting what they need - in my case

QC is horrible but Pat went as far as sending me a whole new fixture. Yes that had issues to but nothing a screw driver couldnt fix. The tank 48x18x24 is doing great. I'm trying to extend my photoperiod too. I'll get it right. The programability is fantastic. Just added a clam and an acro. Clam opened up beautifully today. I did put it in the rock work not on the sand just in case. I love the fact algae growth has slowed up so much I do the glass 1-2 x's per week. After all the crap in the beginning with QC I must say I love this light. I asked Pat if he will have retro kits as the technology gets better for us first brave souls who bought Solaris in the first few runs and he said he thinks so. I found that encouraging. I must say Pat runs a great company. He personally stood by his product...Who does that today? Great job Pat. I'll never buy lighting from another company as long as I live. My buddy swears by PFO MH set ups.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE EVERYONE KEEP POSTING HOW YOUR TANKS ARE DOING AND WHAT NEW THINGS TURN UP. We are the lighting pioneers who will be revered and idolized. We will be legends and the envey of our peers. We will be written about in history books for generations to come. Hey my reef tank cost more than the first APOLLO mission. So in a sense we are like the first ones on the moon. Solari users united!

I know that i appreciate Solaris owners posting their experience. I'm on the sidelines, not a basher, just looking for honest feedback from those that are actually owners. Although, I must admit that it would take quite a person to admit that they bought one of these and it isn't performing as they expected (e.g. light output).

Here is the most realistic picture I could get to show what I see with my eyes instead of the usual camera deficient blue overload - I had to adjust my shutter speed to get it and its a little blurry - the only point I would add is that the shadows are more pronounced (darker) than with my eyes even though the brightest objects are dead on

Its funny how my oly camera gets the color more right than my nikon d100

I would be interested in knowing what steps you are taking to adjust for longer photo period - I am doing this too - So far, leaving auto solar on I changed my shortest day to 675 minutes and it changed both sunrise and sunset so I may have to change the time if I want sunrise to be a little later. Also I am perplexed why the lunar blues do not go off when I expect the real moon to set - PFO has not responded to these questions fast enough for me.

I would say if it was not performing. I am letting my corals decide that, its not up to me. So far so good with SPS, LPS, and Softies. The only thing that I see needs a bit of improvement is the light spread/shadowing. I would like 2 solaris units on my current tank now. I am saving up on that. This should fix light gaps. I should have enough play money by the time the 400w unit comes out. I can then put one 400w on the front of my tank, and my current 250 on the back half.

Eventually I want a 4 ft wide tank(96x48x30), and I am thinking about 3-4 72" units for that.

I say Pat is doing a good job trying to fix the QC issues. It's not easy getting this done. Maybe we should build them 100% in the U.S.A instead of China. Hehe :)

Rather than multiple fixtures I'd like for Pat to design light solutions for different width tanks. The current one is perfect for an 18" tank, I'd like to see flavors for 24", 30", 36", 40" etc. Just a marketing idea Pat :D.

I think I recall him saying there are heat limitations on that but it would be awesome.......

i posted a picture of my tank above from my home computer this am and i am sitting at my office computer right now and the image looks purple -

can someone pls tell me if it looks purple to you?

I have been fiddling with gamma on both computers and tripping over myself..... the tank is not purple in real life

thanks

it does look purple but not a bright purple looks dimmer than a 20 k bulb it could be the way you took the pic.Its hard to use a flash since it reflects off the glass. You should taks a few pics of the diff amount of light the unit can produce.I always find the pics never look like the real thing.

Several times I have seen this said. It looks bluer in pictures than in person. There must be a technical reason somewhere.

The technical reason has to do with the white balance system of the camera. The kind of color temps we seen in the aquarium hobby are far beyond what a camera sees in normal use, and beyond what the camera is designed to handle automatically.
