Solaris LED Lights

A LFS close to me has them on all their tanks, and they look awesome. Plus NO HEAT. I'm hoping to get one for my Tech 45.

i also heard from the owner that they may be coming out with a newer model.

Is the new model - I-4?
Or is there a further model?
 
I have been using the solaris for about 2 weeks now and it is awesome worth the cost in no heat alone. I put it on my new 120 Gallon Tech series tank.

I will get my new solaris next week. It will be the first system in my country (Israel). My tank is also 120 Gallon and I hope to get the best results out of it.

If you have any tips, I'll be glad to hear, because I am new in reef keepping.
 
no, but i work at a lfs and have seen both first hand.
also i went to a local aquarium club meeting where pfo (owner of solaris) gave a 2 hour talk/demonstration of the unit.

the things i like about the aquaillumination are that the led arrays are easily upgradeable, the controller is a blue tooth controller that is off to the side as opposed to right smack in front of the unit, the led's they use are more powerful, the units are modular, and much more sexy looking for the money...
also, made in usa, and at least the company attemps to be "green".

I have a 24" I-Series. LPS dominated tank - great color and growth. No heat added to the tank. Great customer service from PFO.
 
What happens (either from some bulbs breaking or dying out) when you need to change the solaris bulbs? Do you need to buy a complete new system?
 
The PFO Galileo advertises:

Each LED is independantly mounted for ease of replacement or upgrade if necessary.

The page on the PFO Solaris didn't say.


I'm just glad to see some competition so that prices will come down to something more reasonable.

The Solaris is made up of banks of LEDs, 25 to each bank. Each bank consists of 5 strips of 5 LEDs. If an LED goes out, the strip of 5 it's in needs to be replaced. They are plug and play, easily replaced in the field.

Would you post the name of the store or you might want to PM it to me. The RC post guards sometimes get real funny about posting certain things. Don't want to get you into trouble. :D

The current model is the I4. I'm sure there will be an upgrade but can't say when. PFO has come out with three models (original and 2 upgrades) in the first year. Can't imagine this being the final model.

I've had all three models and currently have the 72" I4 and love it.

Is the Solaris worth it??? It must be. Every shipment has sold out BEFORE reaching the USA.

I figure with the savings I'm getting in energy from the Solaris usage, no more chiller usage, no more window AC in the fish room, and no bulb replacement every 9 months, I figure my 72" will pay for itself in 3 years or less.

It's worth it to me. Only you can decide if it's worth it for you.

Hello Dick,

My new Solaris Illumination System has just arrived last Wendsday. It is the 48" I-4.
I put it to work, following the exact orders (as the manual says) and operated the auto solar program.
It worked fine for two days but in the morning of the third day I noticed that two DW (day whites) leds were blinking.
I sent an email to PFO and they will send me a replace strip (very good and quick customer service - I talked to Carla).

Will you please describe how to replace the strip of leds?
If you can draw something, it will be a great help for me.

I live in Israel and I am the first in my country to have the Solaris system.
