Solvent safe for acrylic (to clean it).

I just got a new EuroReef RC500 skimmer. It did not have the original packaging. The on-line vendor used some duct tape to hold things together. The duct tape worked, nothing arrived damaged.

However, now I have sticky duct tape residue on various parts of the acrylic. What is safe to use to remove this?

I e-mailed EuroReef directly several days ago. No response from them.

I saw that in your thread, and was really surprised.

Try PMing "Acrylics" for his advice.

Duct tape seriously, that kind of tape can easily come apart on card board. I worked at UPS at one time in my life.

That was used inside the box, holding the skimmer together during transport. I was thinking it would have been a mess to clean up when I saw the pictures yesterday.

Thanks for the tip, PM sent.

Get a can of denatured alcohol at your local Lowes's, Home Depot. Dampen a small section of clean soft cloth with the Alcohol and wipe the sticky areas with this. I won't hurt the Acrylic and should remove all the residue.

That did the trick. Thanks. Just dab it on, let it sit for a few second and it rubbed right off.

Cool. I have that as I use it when I make cheese fondue. It is what the heating element uses.

alcohols can craze the plastic. THere's a cleaner called GOO GONE that works. It's citrus based. DO NOT get the stuff called GOOF OFF. it will eat through the plastic.

I just remembered last time I was trying to remove glue from acrylic, I used WD-40. It wasn't quick, but it worked.
