I picked up some really nice colonies for $20 a pop from my LFS this week but they didn't seem to have names for them and what kinds of placement they'd be happy with"¦

Those are maricultured and they were $20!!! That is a really good deal or someone was not paying attention. Pieces like that start off at $50.

The first one might be Acropora secale. The radial corallites look a little different tho.

The second might be Acropora plana if it tables.

The third could be A. formosa. I was originally thinking A. yongei (Green Slimer) but the corallites just don't match to me.

Cool thanks! Yeah my LFS usually gets an SPS shipment every other Sunday and often has these things on sale for $20, regularly $35 but if you don't get them right away they sell out quickly at $20.

Ugh you're making me so jealous. i worked in LFS in Michigan years ago and maricultured would go for $100 usually. I moved to AZ and I thought it was dirt cheap to see them going for $50-$60.

You killin me!:headwally:

Yeah I don't have any idea how they sell em so cheap. Their fish are cheap and healthy too for the most part. The only downside is the colonies do seem to have some pests on them. I pulled off some crabs, weird worms and some nasty isopods on some of these frags. One worm I was gonna put into my sump but never saw one like it before... bright red/magenta with centipede type legs and no bristles. It looked a little mean though so he went bye bye...

Some of the crabs can be good. Usually the fuzzy ones are not.
