Some Midnight Fun Feeding My Scoly Collection

OooohhHHH! How beautiful! I'm thinking I might add one of these pretty soon. Your tank is so colorful, I love it! If they weren't so pricey, I'd have a tank full of them. Very nice collection.

Thanks! I cut up frozen table shrimp into small cubes and let them thaw with a few drops of aquavitro fuel. Seems to make them very plump.

Hi. They're actually surprisingly easy to care for. Low-moderate light and flow. As long as your water isn't terrible I'd say give one a try! They're very bright and addictive.

I agree. They're extremely easy to care for. They're awesome eaters too. I fatten mine up with a mix of mysis shrimp and fauna marin. Take the plunge you wont regret it

+1!!!

I feed mine the same combo with great results. I haven't regretted taking the scoly dive for a second. They're a pleasure to stare at, and almost always receive compliments when people view my tanks.

You have a very nice collection Billyc. Thanks for sharing some sweet pics with us!

Is that a rock or a cucumber coming out from under the war and peace favia? Love the scolies but the W&P favia is one of my favorites.

Awesome pictures, and nice scoly collection.

Thanks, I appreciate it. :D

Thanks for the very nice compliment. You won't regret adding one if you do. I'd say it's definitely worth saving up for!

what do you feed them ?

So far I've been cutting up frozen whole shrimp from the supermarket and soaking it in AquaVitro Fuel. I'm not sure if the Fuel has any effect but my scolys are definitely fat and have very saturated color.

Extremely nice scoly's btw. Those masters are sick!!

Thanks man. Master scolys are my favorite. I'm always looking for very unique variations.

Awesome looking scolys. Has anyone tried to propogate or frag these?

Thanks! Yes people have fragged these with some success. They usually cut them in half right down the middle of the mouth. IMO scolys are too beautiful to cut. I would rather have one full scoly than a bunch of halves. A lot of the beauty comes from the roundness IMO.

Wow, that is quite the collection! Beautiful specimens

Thanks, I am enjoying collecting them. :)

Seems like we have a similar love for scolys you can only fully appreciate if you own one. ;) It's my pleasure sharing pics and nice comments I have been receiving motivates me to take more pics for this thread.

You sir have a very good eye! Yes, that is my prized war&peace favia colony grown out from small frag. And yes, that is Duke the sea cucumber hanging out in the lower right side of the colony on the sand. (His name comes from an inside joke between my wife and I about what we think this cucumber resembles)

Thanks for the tips guys,
Since then its been doing better, seeing improvement, Ill try feeding them some mysis shrimp I have

Can you train scolies to eat during daytime hours?

You sure can! Just turn your pumps off and place some mysis as close to the mouth as possible. It may take a few minutes, and you may have to ward of opportunistic crustaceans and fish, but eventually the scoly's mouth will swell and gladly gobble up whatever you give it. I'd say mine get fed 90% during the day, and maybe 10% at night.

Any updates?

Just bought my first war paint scoly, I'm in love with it.. especially around feeding time when all of it's tentacles are out.
