Some modest collecting success

This is my sixth year doing tropical stray collecting. Last year was the absolute worst! Lots of jellyfish and not much else.

Below are some pics of what I and my LIKA (LI Killifish Assoc.) buddies got last Thursday.

Never having caught a Tang before, I thought we got an Atlantic Blue, until I looked it up and saw that the juveniles are yellow! Walter ID'ed it for me as a Doctorfish Tang, Acanthurus chirurgus.

Also, never having caught a Lookdown before, I hadn't realized this guy would be a challenge to get eating. I've tried PE Mysis, Hikari Mysis, Rod's food (fish only formula), and live Black Worms. He shows interest in the worm movement but hasn't taken one yet -- and they don't move for long in saltwater. I can get adult live Brine Shrimp on Tuesday. Any other suggestions from someone with experience with these guys?

lookdowns will usually go for small guppies.. not sure its the best thing for them but it will at least get their appetite going.

Nice collection. How big is the tang?

About 1-3/4". Aggressive little bastard!

Get a load of grass shrimp.

Bill, there actually are grass shrimp living in the tank -- I've seen him go after them but he misses!

George they are predators..tell your killi fish friends to make a donation.

Yup, I got a donation today of a bunch of Mosquitofish (Gambusia) -- a Guppy-like little FW fish. He came really, really close to eating! Zoomed after them. but, just like the live worms and shrimp, stopped short of taking them. I need to get live adult brine shrimp. It's now going on too long without eating.

He misses :eek1: He might need his eyes checked  I've normally had them feed on grass shrimp with no issues, as well as small fish. The slower moving adult brine are worth try. Might get him started feeding and acclimating to tank life so you can get him eating other food.

Success! Size matters!!! I managed to get some guppies just the right size for him and he immediately grabbed and swallowed one. Whew!
