Some New Equipment Seen at MACNA

I figured I should start a list of some of the new toys I saw at MACNA for those of you that weren't fortunate enough to attend. Anyone that has, please add to this list (devices I've missed, opinions, other stuff). I'm sure this will be an incomplete list as I didn't get to see everything as I was only able to go Sunday.

X-Wave (Wavysea Clone - Champion Lighting Booth): This was one of the first things I noticed. Looks like this will be available in the next week or so. Looked ok, but there seemed to be some issues with the display model. Basically has the same features as the Wavysea - adjustable speed, rotation angle, etc. However, unless it is substantially less expensive, I don't think I'd choose it over the original.

Ocean's Motions Clone (Champion Lighting Booth): This one I noticed in a little package at their booth. I didn't really examine it closely, but from what I saw, it seems to do basically the same thing as an OM. Perhaps someone else got more details.

Aquasurf (Neptune Booth): I know this one has already been mentioned in other threads and I think some people actually have one, but I figured I'd just point out how cool it is. Nice impressive resonance wave-motion, even in a short (by Wavebox standards) 36" tank. I'm definitely getting one!

Another LED light fixture (Omega One booth): Here is an odd one. I did not realize that Omega One had a lighting devision OmegaStar. Such an odd mix - food and lighting. They had a prototype 12" LED fixture. The guy at the booth said he expected it to be available in 6 months or so. Looked pretty bright and the guy said that one unit is equivalent to a 150W MH at 55 watts.

New EuroReef Stuff (Euroreef booth): Looks like Euroreef is finally breaking out into other things than skimmers. Among the new things are a calcium reactor that uses an aspirating design for the CO2 uptake and a media reactor. Looks pretty good to me. I also noticed that they are soon to release a nano-skimmer. I think they had one of them in a Biocube.

RK2 Skimmers (RK2 Booth): I think RK2 is known as a commercial skimmer manufacturer. They had a whole line of hobby-level skimmers. These caught my eye because they seem to be beckett (using Mag pumps) and they had bubble plates. I've never seen these guys before, perhaps they are just new to me.

ELOS Planet V dual MH fixture (ELOS booth): The ELOS guy said this is brand-spanking new. I've never owned an ELOS product before (wish I had that kind of money), but I'd have to say I was very impressed. It sporting 10000K+ MH bulbs, which were just perfect white. Oh, and the ELOS tanks are amazing, but those are only new to me.

Hydor Mini-Koralia: I'm sure most people know about these guys. They are nicely small. Didn't see it in action.

RIO Polario: I knew about this one for awhile. It switches current back and forth, seems pretty powerful.

I'm sure there are a number of things that I managed to miss or have neglected to think of. I was quite happy with my experience at MACNA. Most everyone was really friendly and quick to answer any questions.

Cool! Thanks for the info! I will try to make it next year...looks like it so much fun!

Btw, I agree with elos comments...I bought my elos system and I'm glad I did...Jesse's customer service is awesome!

the RK2 Skimmers are not becket they are either venturi or NW depending on what pump you use its your choice... The bubble plates were different than the BK the holes were smaller.

By Far the Best new product at Macna was the Eco Tech booth and their amazing new vortech wireless controllers

The new vortech pump are nice because you can add a battery backup that will power the vortech up to 30 hrs. I'm not sure if the Tunze has this option.

Variable speed Tunzes should be able to run off APC battery back-up units pretty easily (even when they use square-wave current instead of sine wave). You can find these relatively cheap, especially if you find a used one on eBay.
