Some new fish...

Anyone have an idea what the large bump on the left side of the fish is? Photographer's right, left of the fish.

It's always looked a little fat and bumpy through the middle, but I just assumed it was fat. This is the first day that really made me say whoa, it looks wrong.

Any ideas?

I'm really regretting not quarantining the fish now :P

That is the SAME exact way my Male Scribbled from the DD looked. And it kept getting larger. As it grew the fish lost bouancy and stability. It died a few days later.

Hopefully he will start eating for you. How long has it been since you have had him? Also have you tried feeding him New Life Spectrum pellets?

Yes, I've tried nori, mysis, brine, scallops, half a clam, NLS pellets, formula 1 pellets, shredded halibut, shredded shrimp. Nothing.

All have been soaked in either just garlic or garlic/selcon mix.

My foxface has internal parasites right now and he actually looks like that-with two protruding "bumps" on the side. Maybe it's the same thing with your fish? I hope it's not the same thing Michael's scribbled had.

Just as a quick side note (sorry to steal the thread for a second) should I be treating with Prazipro concurrently with hypo or waiting until the treatment is over (3 more weeks)? I was planning on waiting until after hypo was finished so that my filtration would be back up.

This came from Kevin correct? I would contact him immediatley. Looks like internal parasites. T
I dont know his contact information... but I did call in to Live Aquaria today and sent them an email with the pictures.

You can see it in this video of him
~Michael
Well that was depressing, thanks a lot!

Grant after seeing the pictures of him, I would agree that it is one of 2 things:

1) Internal Parasites (most likely) - In this case, Prazi can help but you would need something stronger like Mayracin or Furan. I am not sure that you can use the two in tandem, but I would try. My Blueline angel had the exact same look to him, but 2 rounds of Furan 2 he was better...

2) Internal wounds from capture - this can occur when the divers needle the fish and accidentally puncture the bladder or other internal organs. Most divers decompress through the anus, but I have seen and heard of divers sticking the fish through the side to decompress (very risky)

In any case I would remove the scribbled and put him in QT and treat with Furan or Mayracin...this is the best shot you will have.

I agree with Chris. I would treat with some form of nitrofurazone (Furan 2 or BiFuran+).

I would separate it since it is not eating if possible. Also for your other fish you can make medicated food, just to make sure it was not passed to other fish.

As for needling I think scribbleds are shallow water fish, but I could be wrong.

I'm looking up Furan 2 and it's saying it is for "Effectively treat a wide variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial diseases including: furunculosis (aeromonas), dropsy, gill disease, fin and tail rot, open red sores, black molly disease, mouth fungus, hemorrhagic septicemia, body slime and eye cloud."

Am I looking for a bacterial killer or parasite killer?

One of my LFS has a couple boxes of Furan 2, so if you guys really think that is what I should treat with, I will proceed to pull him to a QT tank and treat.

Where is billsreef?

Just tuned in now, man, I don't know what to say. I will let the people who've been around this respond.....and I've been around a good deal. (fish whoore)

Good luck man, wish I had more to offer!

Thanks man ;) I'm not horribly worried at this point, but I'm getting a little nervous.

I found the Furan 2, I'll go pick that up in a couple hours once I'm off work, then catch the fish and put him into the quarantine tank LIKE I SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE! What a freaking idiot.

Hopefully the Furan works it's magic although I'm a little confused because Furan is directed at bacteria and I think I'm dealing with parasites?

I wonder if I can use Prazi and Furan at the same time?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but when I saw that picture I thought bads things. I had a big Goldflake sucumb to the same problem. I did Prazi and a few maracyn dips with no luck. Unfortunately when you start doing these dips you lessen the chances of the fish to start eating. When a fish is fighting off something like this and is stressed and even worse not eating, not so good. :( The fish needs energy to fight off a serious condition like this. I really hope Kevin or someone from his staff will get in touch with you and give you the solution you need. Best of luck and really hope your fish pulls through. Regards, Tim

Well I hope whatever it is isnt catching, at this point I'm worried about my other already established angels.

ROFL, it is wasnt so sad it would be hiliarious.

I just got a reply email back from Live Aquaria suggesting I feed it thawed frozen peas until it removes the intestinal blockage.

Of course, IT WONT EAT so that isnt going to happen.

Just so you know two of those symptoms you listed for furan two include abdominal bloating: furunculosis (aeromonas), and hemorrhagic septicemia. I'm not saying that is what you fish has, but it is a possibility.

Also, you could treat with prazipro, but I would not mix meds. If you look at the internal parasites thread here: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1612671 prazi did little. I think it is best used against flukes.
