Some new fish...

Sweet fish man-I'm a big fan of goldflakes.

Two questions just for curiosities sake
You said achilles aren't very difficult to keep if you "know what you're doing." Does that mean that they require something specific?

You said your fish were caught by a diver. How do you go about finding someone who'll catch fish for you like that?

For some reason, I thought xmas islands were near hawaii. I thought your diver was from hawaii too. Yeah, 5 triggers is a lot. I am considering 2-3 for my tank, a clown, huma and maybe a GHT, I love nigers too though. I will only get one until I upgrade though, then the rest can come in. You seem to be going back to the less aggressive FO tank that you had before (I remember you having bflys and a juvi emp before) which is nice, you get a nice diversity. I am leaning more towards more aggressive side, I have my reef for diversity.

So when is the new fish coming in? I think I have a good idea, but I was way off on these two new fish! You'll have to post a FTS when the new guys go in! Oh and I know how you feel having a pretty empty tank, I only have 2 tangs, a wrasse, couple small damsels (which reminds me, you could keep them as a CUC now that the mini is gone) and my eel, so its not too exciting, but that should all change tomorrow :D
Go ahead and post what you think I'm getting :) I'm not going to tell you if you're right or wrong, but I'd like to know how good of a guesser you are ;)

Yes, my tank is getting a little more peaceful, but nothing too wussy ;)

I kind of actually hope my angels are going to be the clean up crew ;) The emperor picks along the rocks all day long, hopefully the goldflake follows suits. I dont plan on sticking damsels in there.

Yep, the goldflakes are a neat fish. I like the little blue mouth.

Achilles just require good water quality, imo. So by saying if you know what you're doing, I just mean if you're good at maintaining high water quality and a good tank with flow, you should be able to keep an achilles.

Of course, my last achilles was DOA so I'm not exactly an expert.

Just a couple more pictures today... the goldflake is in my sump and it's dirty on the outside, so I couldnt get a good shot. Looks like he is really healthy though, I'm happy with him.

The achilles looks a LOT better than he did. I thought he was covered in ich and he really doesnt have much. I cant really tell if he even has ich to be honest. It looks kind of like ich, but he hides so much I cant really get a good picture of him. He certainly isnt anywhere near in as bad of shape as I thought he was.

And more good news, the angel just ate a little bit ago. I fed about an hour ago and he ate a couple pieces of brine and one piece of mysis (that I saw anyway). The achilles isnt interested in food yet.

I fed again just 5 minutes ago and the angel ate a couple more pieces, so that is really encouraging.

Great choices Recty!!! My Achilles from my previous tank is still my favorite fish I have owned. Once established I found mine extraordinarily hardy, he sure survived a lot of beginner errors I made.

That is one tiny angel! So your not going to treat him? Glad he is eating though! The Achilles looks to be healthy, I only see a spot or two of ich on him. Not bad considering they can be huge ich magnets. Nice fish, really liking the tang, you have two of the nicest tangs in the hobby, love Achilles and duss!

That's what I'm hoping for, I'm starting with a small one that is hopefully going to adapt nicely to captivity. Time will tell :)

Fish look very well from those pics. Don't you have another coming in as well?
Yeah, my last one comes in Tuesday around 3:30pm EST. He may or may not be going directly into the main tank, I havent decided yet.

I didnt want to put it into QT because of what I thought was a sick achilles, but if the achilles is as healthy as he appears, I might go ahead and QT the new arrival for at least a couple days then this weekend do the switch to the main tank.

Yeah, I am going to treat the angel. From what I hear, small goldflakes are big time internal parasite carriers.

I ordered more Prazipro today, I'll get it on Friday probably.

The plan was to treat all the fish in the main tank. I can hypo it for ich and Prazi for flukes and IPs. However, that is because I thought the achilles was in bad shape. If he keeps looking good tomorrow, I'll probably just Prazi the main tank and then just watch the fish to see how they do. I wont hypo the tank until I see quite a bit of ich, not just a few small spots.

To be honest, I'm just worried about the angel being so small, my niger and my goldheart might nip at him just to see if he tastes like food.

I got a decent pic of my achilles a couple seconds ago... shows the ich on him. Most of it seems to be based near his tail, his face is almost totally clear.

My powder blue looked worse than that by about double after a day or two. I ran it though copperpower and prazi for a week and then switched out the water, all of it, with new clean water and haven't seen ich since. I moved it to my kid's tank, then this week to my work tank and still haven't seen the ich. Sometimes I think they need the help to get clean, get a good feeding habit, and then they're good. I stuffed that pbt and it looks much better today nearly a month later. I would want to treat that tang before setting it loose in the main tank. The others might be strong, but the achilles will have to fight it off in the display and keep it off. Just my opinion. I hate seeing spots on my fish....especially when your main is doing great from what you've posted. I've adapted a new idea, heal the new fish and risk that one rather than test the rest.

Recty, your fishes look like they are doing pretty good! Love that Achilles. Glad to hear your GF is eating a little. He looks very healthy. I hope it won't be long before the Achilles will follow suit.

My Emp does have a little ich so he is being treated with Cupramine. Did you treat your Emperor with prazi? I can't decide whether I should treat it prophylactically or not wait till I see signs of flukes. I'm afraid he'll lose his appetite from prazi.

I did treat my entire tank with Prazi, I plan on doing it again too. I noticed no loss of appetite when I treated. I've got a new fish coming in pretty soon, couple hours or so, I'll probably be placing all these fish into the DT and treating within the next couple days, I still cant decide.

If it wasnt a relatively soft and fragile achilles tang (fragile compared to what I'm used to) I wouldnt mind leaving it in QT and treating and hoping it all works out. However, due to the more sensitive nature of the fish, I think I'll have a lot better chances placing it into the DT soon and doing prazi on the whole tank and then hypo.

BTW, anyone know if you need to change dosage on prazipro if you're at low salinity?
