Some new fish...

That is exactly why I haven't placed that pbt into my main. I see how it acts in the 55. When I moved the purple tang into the 55 because it had some ich the pbt tried to mess with it. Let me add that the purple tang is easily 5 times its weight and didn't sit back and take it. Pbt is now in a 10 until my purp is clear...had to nuke the 55......I'll talk about this junk on my thread though...

Yeah, aggression with tangs suck... angels dont seem to be able to do as much damage as quickly as tangs can... those Acanthurus tangs have some sharp teeth and tail blades.

Well this is good. I didnt even have to try a open clam or anything, this queen after 2 days is eating pellets and nori really well. It ignored nori for the first day, but the second day when I put it in and came back in an hour, the entire 1/8th of a sheet was gone. So I put some more in just about 5 minutes ago and she is devouring it.

There is still something just a little messed up on her mouth, it's like it got rubbed a lot in shipping or capture. She has a harder time eating hard foods I think. It's odd because my 4" majestic eats the 3mm pellets just fine, but this 5" queen can only eat the 1mm pellets, the 3mm seem to big for her to chew and swallow.

But anyway, eating nori and pellets, that's great :) Now I just need to fatten her up for a week and start the treatment!

Looks like everything is going good for you, that's great.

I don't know if you got your Cuprisorb yet, but I'll be regenerating my first 100 ml pack today. The lfs ordered some more, so I have two to work with. I'll let you know how it goes.

I just regenerated the Cuprisorb. It was only a light green color to start with, so it could have stayed in much longer. It took only about 15 minutes for the color to go back to normal. On the Seachem test kit, the tank water is barely distinguishable from tap water. The copper comes out a lot faster than I thought it would.

How are your shrimps doing?

The shrimp are unfortunately dead... irritating. I register 0 copper in the tank, but I have a killer dussumieri...

I've seen him zipping around with shrimp parts in his mouth 3 times, one time it was half a body.

Either there is trace amounts of copper in the water, just strong enough to kill the shrimp and the dussu is eating the dead bodies or else he is picking them off because he can.

If I had put all 4 shrimp in at once, I would think they all would die within a day or two, but I put the 2 cleaner shrimp in first then the fire shrimp 2 days later. Two days after that, all 4 were dead. Makes me think a rogue fish got a hankering for shrimp.

I just got my cuprisorb in last night, the shipment was like 5 days late, but I'll try to put some in the tank now. I didnt realize how small the granules would be, I might have to go get some sort of small filter bag. At this point, without inverts, the huge amount of activated carbon I have in the tank should be more than enough to keep the small amounts of carbon that will leech out of the rock down to nothing.

Too bad about the shrimp.

The 100 ml Cuprisorb comes in bags, wonder why the larger size wouldn't. I'm not sure what mesh they are, but yeah, those beads are really small.

Yeah, I actually think I have a mesh bag that will work. It's like 50 micron so it will hold the beads.

Can I just hang the bead bag in the tank I wonder? Somewhere in the sump with lots of flow or do I need to work it into a filter where the water has to be forced through it?

Well that is interesting. Apparently the dussu didnt get one of the shrimp :)

I was looking at a weird angle sideways through the tank and I saw white antennae sticking out. Sure enough, there is one cleaner left. He is hiding underneath a rock that has a concavity on the bottom that is basically only accessible through a small slit. The dussu cant jam himself in here I'm sure.

Too bad the other shrimp didnt find that place before they got savaged :(

I hope he lives!

I put one bag where the water flows off of my ATS, so it trickles onto the bag, and the other in one of my overflows. It doesn't seem like any debris can get in the bag, I guess you could put it anywhere that water would flow through it.

Yeah, I cant find my bags, I'll have to run to the LFS here before it closes and get a me a bag.

So more good news, another cleaner shrimp is alive. So that means only the 2 fire shrimp died, which maybe they didnt look like cleaners enough so the dussu decided to take a sample taste.

I still think he would eat the cleaners if he could, they are both just hiding really really well. This second one that I just found this morning is barely able to be seen, he is hiding way down under a rock and I just barely saw antennae at all. I figured it was a molt or something but then he crawled out just enough I could see his head, then he zipped back down under the rocks.

Anyway, I've got two cleaner shrimp left alive, so that is good, I'd like to be able to maintain cleaners in the tank, the fish seem to enjoy them. I bet the emperor doesnt like his face getting cleaned though with those big pock marks.

The raccoon butterfly sure isnt doing good. He is in the 2nd 29g QT but ever since the copper he hasnt been quite right. He never really resumed eating, he just kind of picked at food then spit it out. I've heard copper in general can be very hard on butterflies, but I was hoping I'd be able to get through it.

He is kind of starting to do a weird swim pattern and not hold himself upright perfectly, which ime is pointing towards certain doom.

I wish I could get him to eat, he basically hasnt eaten for 3-4 weeks, every since the cupramine treatment started.

Well, long story short, the queen is now in my tank. The QT tank was needed for something else. They treat with copper at the place it was being held, so I'm hoping it didnt bring anything horrible in with it. From day one it's been a good eater and it isnt scared of me at all, so after only 4 days of QT I decided to place it into the main tank rather than risk contaminating it with a new fish going into the QT.

It is doing great in there. It's already eating and doing fine. The emperor is still definitely the boss of the angels but the queen can hold her own and does really well. I love seeing it in there. Wow, I thought my emperor was the best looking fish I've ever seen, but this queen is just crazy beautiful.

My brother just flew in and so I snagged my camera back and was able to get some real pictures finally.

Some fish look better with a flash, the queen I dont think does, it really makes the colors odd.

Look at the teeth on this beast!

I love this queen, probably my favorite fish. So stinking pretty... long flowing fins, it's just an amazing fish. I love the tons of blue it has too, I'm glad I held out for the one I thought was perfect.

Gorgeous queen, looks very similar to mine. I wouldn't have added it to the display so soon though. You said it was only in captivity for a couple of days, so that isn't enough to kill off any disease. Only time will tell, hopefully it works out for you. I know you won't answer, but whats in QT? Also I might PM ya later about finding a CXI emperor.

Well I didnt really have a choice with adding it to the display, it had to be done. Or else get a sure infection from another fish.

They ran it in copper at the place for 3 days before shipping it, it LOOKS totally clean which I know doesnt mean it is, but I'm actually planning on re-coppering my tank at the first sign of ich now that I've done it once and know what to expect, plus I'll be running Prazipro through it in about 2 weeks so I'm not worried really about flukes either.

Here's another picture I just got that I like. Something cool about having a really shallow depth of focus.

I really need to get a camera, I'd just rather spend my money on a new fish, like a cxi emperor. I should start saving for a clarion though :D gorgeous pics of gorgeous fish! This is under a 250w halide right? What kelvin? Any other lighting?

Yeah, I only bought the camera because I was being paid to build a website and needed the good quality pictures... otherwise I probably wouldnt have been able to justify spending $2500 just to take pictures of a fish ;)

I forget I've got this guy in another QT, he's just about ready to go into the display as well.

Well I got some more rock today... it's great stuff and I got a really good price on it. So much of my rock is just round blobs, this will add a lot more dimension to my tank. I put a beer in the picture for size reference and for incentive for me to get my work done and drink a nice cool beer ;)

I'm going to clean it all up tonight and if it isnt too late I'll place it into my main tank. My main concern is the rock is stinking sharp, it hurts my hands. I bet it wont be good if the fish ram into it.

The queen is amazing! Hope it does great for you!
Me too!

It was cool when I put the new rocks in. Everyone hid while I was doing the work, but as soon as I was out of the tank and things settled for 2 minutes, the dussu and the emperor cruised the whole tank together exploring everything.

They are like best buds, I wonder how long it stays that way...
