I saw a colony 1/3 that size for $150 at IMAC. A bit too steep for me, but I did get a small colony of what I call superman zoa's (blue center and red skirt).

Those are pretty nice... Did you just get them? If so how did you "propagate" them so fast to sell at the bargain price of $10/polyp

Ok, thats fine. I wasnt trying to sell them on here just show them to people. and i wonder why reefcentral has a reputation for everyone being jerks....

how were they jerks? Correct me if i am wrong but from my perspective you bought a large colony and are now breaking it up to recoup your costs/make money, which is what an aquatic chop shop does. (many places take large wild colonies and break them up into frags) I don't see anything wrong with what you are doing, capitalism at its finest, and you shouldnt' take offense to some honest discussion. If you didn't list it as a new colony you probably wouldn't have gotten the comments, though trying to sell some wild zoas for prices that most who frequent this board find ridiculously high doesn't help either.

a word of advice; breaking up newly introduced colonies is not advisable for the long term health of the zoas. they need weeks/months to acclimate to captive tank conditions, especially if wild which i am sure these are based upon the size of the colony, otherwise you risk losing the whole colony to post-frag infections. I would be careful selling any new frags as they may not take kindly to being fragged followed by 2-3 days of priority shipping. I know if i paid 10 a polyp they better be super healthy. I give mine at least a week to heal before shipping, and i try not to frag any zoas until they have been in my tank for at least a month.

twon8, makes an excellant point, one that is often overlooked. It is always, always best for the longevity of the colony or frag to allow it to settle in it's new home for a couple of weeks before fragging.

Again, great point Anthony>

i said it was a nice colony. wasnt being rude, just stating an obvious point that someone else would have brought up if i didnt...

i just think its ashame you said its a new colony you just got, and are already fragging up to make a profit. i could care less if and how much a profit you are making, or if you are trading...its just sad to see something new that you hardly see get fragged up that fast.

also the wonderful points twon8 made.

mind if we ask how much you paid for that colony? or would that be an offensive question? just curious, this is an informative discussion. i find it interesting the difference in prices of certain corals in different areas.

thanks, i was trying to help him and prevent the loss of the colony, but apparently my advice fell on deaf ears.

It was a valiant attempt. And comendable. But he obviously has only one thing on his mind. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I've had the colony for several weeks guys, this isnt the first zoo colony i have ever gotten, and i do know what i'm doing. I didnt just start fragging as soon as i got them.
