Probably the best you can do is blow it off with a turkey baster, if cyanobacteria, or rip it off with tweezers, if filamentous algae. The corals should eventually overgrow the areas of damage if happy and healthy, but zapping the algae makes this easier for them. Clipping these areas is unlikely to help since that will just expose new skeleton which can then be recolonized by more algae, resulting in the same problem.
