some pics of the tank in progress

Murphs205

gotta love saltwater.....
I should have it breathing in the next 10 days or so.. still have some odds and ends to put together. I just want it done already. i am going to re-do the return lines with a "Y" instead of the 90's shown in the pic. fill her up next weekend and test it out for a day or so running full go... fingers crossed ! . that extra room in my basement worked perfect for the sump and all of my stuff. it should be around 250 total gallons when done .

Nice work on the Bean's Method overflow Murph. I assure you you won't be disappointed with the decision to go that route!!

this is going to be comical when i fire this thing up ,, i have never worked with these pipes , im sure ill be up and down the stairs 300 times in a minute , i know you run these Phil Im just not sure what to expect the first time ,, fill me in a bit please !

Haha... it's pretty cool to watch... you'll go:

:eek2: OH NO!....
 then "phew"...
 then man is that loud...
:smokin: then yeah buuudddy!

Haha... yeah it's a thing of beauty once it's running smooth. I'm about a few days away from ripping out all my pretty black plumbing and converting it back to Bean's Method... these Gurgle Busters are driving me nuts!

im looking forward to getting it running and getting used to the set up , this week wont go buy fast enough.

Nice job Murph. Lookin' good.

Can someone post a link to the Bean's method? I use Herbes and I'd like to compare the two.

Murph you shouldn't need to be running up and down the stairs really... Start out with you siphon line about 1/2 way closed and the other 2 lines wide open. Fire your pump up and "in theory" (LOL) all you will need to do at that point is adjust the siphon line so that your water level is such that some water drains down into your sump from the open line you should still be below your emergency line though. For reference my siphon line it the only line that I have a ball valve on and I have it roughly 33% open. I am figuring that I have bout 1100-1200 GPH of flow from my sump to my tank. Also, side note...when your in the next room and you hear a horrible screeching sound coming from the tank the first time its the water level dropping to right around the level of the siphon and some air is getting into the siphon. I ran over to the tank about 4 or 5 times before I got my mind convinced that the sounds wasn't a catastrophe!! LOL.

I would start with them all wide open to be safe, and to help the air purge faster. Then gradually start closing the siphon line.

Initially your overflow box is going to fill all the way up, and water will begin flowing down your emergency line as air is purging out of the siphon line (your open channel may also kick into siphon as well depending on where your tubing is mounted. It's pretty neat to watch and shows you how the thing really can't fail. Then once the siphon kicks in, you're overflow box will drain rapidly and you'll hear that loud sucking noise once the water level gets below your downturned elbows. Then you start closing off the ball valve on the siphon line little by little until you get the water level inside the overflow box to the height you want. (I ran mine about 3/4 full).

The other 2 lines as Phil stated... never need to be touched.

Here's a video I took a while ago.

You'll see water begin to fill the overflow box, and go down the emergency channel as the siphon channel is trying to purge the air. Then the Open Channel (tubing) kicks into a siphon to help keep the water from overflowing while waiting for the siphon to kick in.

The video isn't long enough to show the noise you hear once the siphon kicks in though, or the adjustments I made to get the water level inside the box set... but can give you a little idea of what to expect.

its getting there Joe ,,, still need some odds and ends , and clean up crew , the night my bow front blew out i lost most if not all of my sand clean up crew i have some snails and a few blue legs left , but im going to need a bunch of sand bed helpers. i got that bow front that the seam leaked as my sump now , i sealed it up real good with sealant and it holds just fine , i see where it was leaking before and cut it out with a blade and fixed it . Oceanic has sent me a brand new tank to replace this one i fixed , it will be @ RMS next week for me to pick up .. they held up to their lifetime warranty on their tanks , i had to show pics of the tank up and running , to prove it was not drilled, and i have the original bill of sale . they were trying to find 1 little thing to get me on so they didnt have to replace it . but i had all my ducks on line and they had no choice but to replace it .

It's good to see a manufacturer not able to wiggle out of a warranty. Score one for the people! Nice looking tank Murph. I still have your AOG's when you're tank's ready for them. Let me know...

i could hear the defeat in his voice after the third call and a dozen e-mail & pics. ole boy tried everything to get out of replacing that tank ,, i had some good pics of it and just shot down everything he asked for. thanks for holding the AOG's for me Ben. we will frag them in half and you can keep some too
