Some pics with my new camera

I love this new camera! It is the SLR Canon Rebel xti. Very cool. I have been messing around with it all weekend and got a couple of cool pics. I would really like to get a macro lens. Anybody use one? Any tips on a good one? I bought some magnifying lenses and those help to get some close-ups. Okay, here ya go:

hey guys,where can i find a good and cheap tank? maybe like 55g - 75g and probably with a stand..im trying to look for stuff to start my own saltwater tank,right now i have freshwater...

Those are some nice shot! It looks like you don't need any macro lense. I'd love to get a Rebel XTi with an underwater case and stobe light. But that's going to have to wait a few years.

I'd recommend the Sigma 105mm EX DG for a true 1:1 macro lens. This lens is very sharp and reasonably priced.

I've used a Canon 100mm f/2.8 lens that gives nice sharp pics but narrow depth of field. It might be more than you want to spend though, I think it was around $600.

I was looking at the Sigma. I will probably end up going with it - nice to hear that it is a good lense at a more reasonable price. The canon lenses are super expensive!

I had the Sigma 105mm under a different mount and sold it when I switched to Canon. This lens was very sharp as a macro and as a portrait lens.

Canon lenses are pricey- but you get what you pay for since they are generally better built. If I were you, I'd buy the Sigma and use the extra money to buy more corals.

Nice shots. Get a good macro lens and reshoot the same stuff, the difference will be night and day. I'd love to have an SLR but I'm scared that I'd get addicted to buying lenses (or at least that's what I tell myself to feel better about not having one) so for now I can only borrow my wife's Powershot G3

The best tips I've gotten came from Jason Wedehase (currently the CVR President). He allowed NVR to republish part of his write up in our knowledgebase: http://www.nvreefers.org/community/articles/photo_tips.php

He has several more write ups that we link to near the end. IIRC they are all posted on the forums over at CVR. My reef pictures look a LOT better since using some of his tips.
