Awesome view, and cool photos, Zurc.

About the blog entry tho, I didn't understand why you thought the lifeguard didn't see the manatee or why you had to talk down about him like he was endangering people's lives, especially with such calm, clear conditions?
If you talk to the lifeguards here you'll find out that they see manatees and sea turtles all the time.
I don't know what you were expecting, but I've never seen a lifeguard freakout over a manatee unless people were molesting it.
Btw, your comment button isn't active or I would've left the comment on your blog instead of here.

Thanks for all the comments :)

Not too far from the pictures I took of the manatee there is a reef, alot of people are there all day, everyday snorkeling and diving... I have been meaning to check it out but haven't had the time. Anyone been there? It's the public beach area on Hallandale Beach Blvd and Ocean Drive.

Dude, ANY and I mean ANY kind of diving/snokeling you can do just by walking out of your house is GREAT!!!

Nice pics by the way.

My home is on the Middle River in Fort Lauderdale. We've had manatees come by a few times in the past few years. Once a manatee was under my boat. I noticed the tail and thought it might be a piece of cardboard... until it moved.

A few months after hurricanes Katrina/Wilma I was standing on a balcony at the Dip looking at what used to be a beach. The waves were now lapping against the seawall. After a few minutes I noticed a Bull Shark swimming lazily toward some swimmers. It came about as close as the manatee in your pics, then just wandered away. Those folks probably will never know how close they came to a very nasty situation.

Thanks for the pics, now go hit that reef. :)
