Some SPS help....

Thanks Rick. I doubt it's AEFW tho. I've seen lots of pics of the damage they do and I don't see anything like that on my corals. No missing "skin", no bite marks, no eggs, just faded colors and bleaching at the base.

Try to dip one or two of those acros and see if anything comes off. I have seen the same thing sometimes with them. Color loss is a big one for AEFW. The fact that you don't see bite marks could just mean that your coral is able to overcome but not completely from the stress involved. With that the recession at the base is the other indicator for me. Just too much stress from them and not able to grow as quickly as they eat, so the coral has to suffer some where.

I hope it isn't AEFW, but try the dip to be sure. If wont help and if it is bacterial or something else, the dip should also help with that too.

*had to edit, I misspelled something LOL

yea larry,I have seen just poor PE and recession with no visible bites until i removed and dipped the coral so I would think a dip on the worse looking corals would be a start. Also a alk swings of 2 dkh in one day can do this and it may take weeks for the corals to look bad enough for you to notice something is awry so its possibly residual damage from the swing (hopefully) and will recover when stable again for an extended time period.

3 other causes would be lack of good random flow , shading caused by overgrowth and lastly allelopathy. GL
