Some tank pics. (one year into my SPS obsession)

Wow nice set up dude. And I like the idea of sticking the frags in the back perpendicular to the back wall and may be a couple of frags pointing downwards from the rocks at a 45 degree angle. Your frags will surely grow at a faster rate. Great job.

everything in his current tanks part of his sig is a joke. read all of them...

lol

i would love to get a full equipment list though...

are you using only t5's? in your signature it shows 1000 watt MH? what's a bubble king 5000xxl? never heard of that model?

heh.. just a little joke. But me and the sun-god do catch a movie every now and then ;)

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. I really appreciate it..

Since people asked, here is my actual tank specs:

Basics:

80g Visio
Substrate is a hybrid of SSB/DSB (flow has dictated this...) with some areas of rubble.

25g Sump/refugium with a DSB, rubble zones, cryptic zones, and cheato area. My tank is kinda the opposite of a barebottom. I don't know, it is just my thing, I like it "funky". To keep it simple, it just seems natural to me.

Here is a picture of the sump:

I can only guess at rock, but I would say 120 pounds total. Maybe more.

Controller:

Aq jr. with serial conn and a DC-8 + DC-4.

Flow:

One Ocean Runner 3500 on a SCWB for my return.

2 WWD Vortechs in the display. One battery backup.

My max turnover is around 80x, though I switch it up frequently.

Filters:

DAS EX-1 Skimmer plumbed to the overflow. I think it is perfectly matched to my tank.

1 Phosban reactor with Matrix carbon and GFO 24/7

Dosing:

One dual bulkreefsupply doser controlled by my AQ Jr. I like it because it only needs one plug and one program, and was cheap. They don't make them anymore because people complained they were not perfectly equal. I think it matters little.

I also dose KZ amino acids and K+ a few times a week.

Lighting:

I listed the T5 combination above. It is all powered by Icecap ballasts and uses SLR reflectors. I use two Icecap fans for cooling.

Water

Water is made with a filterguys Oceanreef +2 RO/DI

I have always used reefcrystals salt.

I also have a TUNZE osmolator and 6g resevoir under the stand. I love that thing.

livestock:

1 Flame Wrasse
1 Bellus Angel
1 Pink Margin Wrasse
1 Tomato Clown
3 Orange Lined Cardinals
1 Yellow Wrasse
1 Melanarus Wrasse
1 Virgatus Rabbit
1 Blue Throat Trigger
Pair of dragon face pipefish

I feed spectrum pellets everyday. I also feed PE mysis, rod's food, prawn eggs and other various frozen at times.

That is pretty much it. :)

Was never really impressed with the frag/mags, but the birdsnest you have on that totally changed my mind!
Very nice tank, that Mycedium colony on the left is INSANE! Definately flaunt that sucker over in the LPS forum if you havent already, I know theyd all love see it! Keep up the good work!

We love that coral (might be the fav), I have not seen one since I got it. It is very picky (likes mellow light) but has done well in that spot.

Mycedium robokaki is the exact name I think. That is the only one that whorled like mine in the photos I reviewed.

Here is another couple pics of it from awhile ago

I was thinking that 1000W MH was alittle over the top for a 80 gal! LOL. I must say you got me there but there are some people that are crazy enough to do just that! I was thinking that you must have the tank plumbed into some nuclear powered chiller to get the water back to 82 degrees:D . That was going to be my next question so you could have reeled me in for a bit longer. LOL. anyways you got a pretty nice tank! keep it up!

how are the DF pipefish with all that flow?

they are handy to have around SPS......

your tank is beautiful...i love the zoa garden...

I was going to ask the same thing how are the pipefish are they hard to keep and how are they doing in the tank. Great looking tank man.

So, were those pics taken under all of the bulbs or just the actinics?

Once again looks great!
With them all on. I no longer have a real actinic setting anyways.

I need to play with my camera some more, I tried to compensate for the brightness, so it may have come out a little "dark". if anything the colors are duller in the pics than in person though.

Also, the way my bulbs are set up, the front of the right and left side can look blue. It gives the appearance of the whole tank lighting being different. This is fine though, I have corals that like the lower intesity light there.

Thanks!

They are fine.

Dragons do not swim really, they crawl around like snakes. If they do swim, it is very delibrate in order to get to a rock etc..

Beautiful tank, was wondering with the vortechs how do you have them set-up? Are they set up to run oposite each other or do you have one slaved to the other and do you use all 3000 gph on the high end?
