Were all of those frags or did you get some colonies?

Mostly frags and a couple small maricultered colonies, except for the mycedium and 2 encrusting montis. They were wild and pretty big.

Beautiful tank, was wondering with the vortechs how do you have them set-up? Are they set up to run oposite each other or do you have one slaved to the other and do you use all 3000 gph on the high end?

RIght now I have them on pulse and independent of eachother.

I also like to run them on reefcrest as well. Always independent of one another, I do not like slave mode.

I have then set at 3000 on puulse. On crest mode I reduce it to 2000 or so. As everything grows in I will probably ramp it up and keep it on reefcrest.

Hi mate,

awesome tank. are the bulbs over driven? You only have 1 white bulb in your config. is that the same config youve always used? your coral growth is amazing but you have lots of blue light. i though you would need more white but you certainly showed me otherwise.

Your colors are amazing!!!! I love the zoas at the bottom of the tank, really gives a great look.

What is it about first time tank owners that make a lot of us look bad? I have a friend that is on his first tank, and it is awesome looking! The SPS color up more in his tank than any Ive seen in person.....?

HB, very nice tank!! Love the variety and colors of your corals and fish together. I'm interested in these T5 only tanks. How do your temps run? That mycidium is killing me!!! Nice! And the fields of zoos. !~)

Great color Contrast HB!!
I love looking at tanks were you can tell someone spent some time contrasting the colors. It makes everything stand out so much more.

Great job :)

Yes, they are overdriven. I can't say if i would use different with regular driven bulbs, as I have not used them, but on my setup the daylight bulbs were just not my cup of tea. Just to strong. Not as much when it comes to bleaching (though I have seen this IME), but rather having a bulb combo that pleases the eye. Without more bulbs, even one GE 3k could not be compensated for with almost all my other 5 bulbs... The 6k was only slightly better.. This was why I started going a different direction and used the red "colored" bulbs.

The fiji purple and procolor bulbs are far from blue, or high kelvin bulbs IMO.

Though there seems to be little info on their actual kelvin rating, I consider them to be on the red end of the spectrum, not blue. Especially the procolor, it is basically pink... The fiji is like a aquablue (same PAR) with some red and purple, it really is unique.. They really pop certain colors, and shift the blue plus bulbs back to white in a way that is not overpowering like the daylight bulbs, which I find make everything washed out and dull..

When all the lights are on it is very much "white". In fact, far more than when I ran a large portion of aquablues, aquasuns, or even GE's. With daylights and blue plus bulbs (and a SA) that i see sommonly recommended, it just looked yellow with blue shadows to me.. very dull... Overall it looked "white" but nothing really popped..

It is not just the color cast by the lights that I found important, but the colors popped that make a tank look "white" to me...

This combo really pops everything and is balanced IMO... I have used them all.... seriously though, every bulb out there..

JMO... I have found that growth did not slow either, so I am set on this combo.

My temps run great. I have no air-conditioning in my house, and even on 90-100 degree heat waves it stays below 85 (if it were to be hot like that for weeks on end). All other days it is right at 79-80.

I think I can do this because I focused on low wattage everything, all my pumps are as low wattage as possible. From my return to my skimmer pumps, obviously the vortechs.

THe ICECAP fans and evaporative cooling are all I need. I have to fill my auto top-off resevoir about every 4-6 days, depending on the time of year
