I like the way your lights look. I'm fixing to order a 24" 4x24w sunlight supply TEK light. Do you have the tek light or retro? What bulbs would you reccomend for the 24" fixture for my 20 gal.? Or just stick with the stock for right now? Your tank looks good.

I've got the tek retro. 6x54W. For a 4x24W over a 20 (that's gonna be a lot of light), I think I'd get 2 aquablues, and 2 blue+, or maybe an actinic in place of one of the blues. I think I'd place the aquablues in the middle and the blues on the outside. I currently have 3 aquablues, and 2 blue+, and 1 SuperActinic. I'd recommend getting a bulb or two extra so you can experiment with the look. Maybe get 3 aquablues, 2 blue+, and one actinic of some sort.

ok, sorry to take the focus off of your tank but if the TEK is gonna be alot of light. What about the current nova extreme? It doesnt have the individual reflectors like the TEK. But its about $70 cheaper. Only SPS that will be under it is a few montis I have and a birdsnest. I wonder if the current will be fine? I was planning on a move to my 29 gal. But I know I wont be satisfied until I get at least a 55-75 gal. setup. The montis and birdsnest are doin' fine in a 10 gal. under a 65 watt PC light.

But back to your tank, I like the aquascaping and the color of you light. I like the blue look.

IMO, if the current works well (i.e. it is quality and doesn't break) it would be fine. The T5 bulbs put out a lot of light and even though you wouldn't have individual reflectors, I think you'd be okay. Especially since you will just have some monti's and a birdsnest in there. You may actually be better off with the current if you are keeping any softies like mushrooms. My mushrooms run and hide from my T5s and I think it is because it blankets the tank with light, whereas halides are intense in spots, but there are also shaded areas of less intensity.

I had a problem with the xenia when I went to make sure I had frags for the swap. My red sea xenia is doing fine, but the ones I got from you are RIP. They did well for a while and were growing, but got really messy on me when I went to make frags. I guess I need some kind of system like you have where you get them to grow where you want.

I recently had a problem with xenia also. I was deep into reading on RC when I heard water splashing. My 2 year old had a chair in front of the tank standing in it and when I turned around he had his arm over the top with the xenia rock in his hand trying to get it out between the light and the top of the tank. I said "OH MY GOD" and he droped it upside down into my GSP. They crashed the next morning but luckily I saved one small piece that had moved off that rock so I still have a little. This kid is fast and sneeky.

I cant kill xenia to save my life. My brother has a ton in his tank. There was some growing on a candy cane stalk. I took a razor to scrape it off. Guess I left some because it started growing back. I might have it gone now on the candycane, cause I put a glob of super glue gel over it, after I scraped it off. If it comes back, then I will give up.

Ok I'm getting way off topic here and you probably already know this but don't keep any zoanthids or palythoa even near where your child can reach them ( I wouldn't keep any in the tank). They can be extremely poisonous. Palythoa toxin is one of the most potent toxins known to man if I am not mistaken. Please excuse me if you are allready aware
