Some winter pictures

I decided to take some pictures of the snow around my house today. Nothing too special but I figured posting them wouldnt hurt. I have always had trouble getting really good snowy photos, I can never seem to find a good subject like I can in the spring and summer. Any comments, questions or advice is welcome!

I like the icicles and shot #7 in general. Nice composition and use of the sun. Yeah, snow can be tricky sometimes. I tend to look for areas where there is a lot of texture or depth indicated by shadows. Those shadows from the fence looked cool too. Found them a little distracting as the background in a few of the images as that is what caught my eye in the images. That's just me though, others may see it different. Good for you for getting out and working it though. The only way we get better is practice and doing it!

IPT,

thank you! I also found that I had the best luck trying to use the sun in my shots and by shooting towards the sun instead of away from it to try and get more shimmer off the ice.

I also agree that the shadows are distracting in some shots but at the time I had thought filling the frame would yield more benefits.

I would like to go to some frozen lakes if this snow ever melts or try to take some bird shots if I get the opportunity, perhaps I will take some at the ocean later this week to get some better subjects.

I saw your pictures and absolutely loved the frozen ice frost crystals. Very cool and beautiful photographs! I wish I had such a nice place to shoot.

That's so cooool. I've never lived in a cold place so snow and ice is rarity! Those photos makes me want to go to the mountains so bad! Snowball fight!
