Someone help with this question please

Would a 70-300mm lens be decent for macro shots of corals? Thought I'd ask in this forum since there isn't a lot of traffic in the photography forum. I know a 100mm macro lens would be the way to go, but this is in a bundle package and I can't afford the macro til later on. Either this lens in the bundle, or a 55-250mm IS lens for a canon T2i. Thanks for any help from someone who knows about photography!

I have a similar lens, and I really never could get macro-like performance from it. It's not really designed for that, even though such lenses often have a macro "minimum distance" printed on them. That minimum distance on my lens is measured in feet, if I recall correctly.

I think the best macro photographs of fish tank inhabitants typically result when the lens is nearly touching the glass. This seems to minimize glare and focusing issues.

I may be wrong, but I have a hunch the telephoto zoom lens you describe wouldn't meet your expectations for macro aquarium photography.

I dont think either would be good for macro, but Id go with the one with Image Stabilizer .

Yeah, I will eventually get a 100mm lens for macro, but for now I was just seeing which one would take the better pics. I guess I'll just go with the 55-250mm for all around better pics and distance then.
