i have a mushroom leather frag i got about 2 months ago
after purchasing it ; on the way out to the car the bag dropped on the ground!
i immediately picked it up and saw it fell off its rock it was attached to
to complicate things more the bag had sprung a leak on the way home!
fortunately i was close enough to my moms house to put it in a clean tupperware container

well after getting it home and acclimating it for about 2 hrs
i put it in the tank
siince then it opens up on occasion but not very big,
and yesterday i was doing some maintenance on my tank
and knocked it off the rock it was on (was kept on the rock with a gumband since getting it home )
i cant get it to stay attached to the rock tryed the gumband ,even gel superglue
now it looks like it is dying
the stalk has a big peice if tissue missing at the bottom so you can see the inside tissue
and putting it back on the rock with the gumband the center stalk tissue broke off

i feed oyster eggs 2 x a week
dose calcium almost every day moly and stronty and iodine every 4 days as directed
what can i do?

stop dosing iodine,moly and strontium. no need for these additives. you have more than enough in the salt mix. iodine can quickly build up to lethal levels. if you dont have a test kit to measure the levels dont add it.

try putting it on the sand. it will bond to the sand and then you can crazy glue it wherever you want. you could also stick a plastic toothpick through the base ang gently rubberband it to a rock, but if the coral is in bad shape already i wouldnt try that yet.

what r your water parameters? what else is in the tank. softies dont use much calcium if any so if all you have is softies you can stop dosing the cal as well.

the coral seems pretty banged up so just putting it in the sand and leaving it alone for a while might help.

i was thinking of cutting the bad section off the stem then gluing the rest to a rock

you could cut the bad part off, but dont try to glue it. its almost impossible to glue a freshly cut leather. it wont bond to the slime. just put it on the sandbed with good flow on it to prevent infection. when it starts doing better put the base into the sand and let it take hold. then u can glue it.

just snip and place in the sand , right?
what about the slime wont it affect any thing?
and about circulation - what about a powerhead pointing at it?
and how much flow?

remove it in the tank when u cut it. rinse as much slime as u can with a turkey baster. pace back in the tank. dont blast it with flow. just make sure it is getting a decent current and face the cut part towards the current. after a couple days u can bury the stalk in the sand.

ok 2 day i sniped off the bad end with a sharp pair of siccors
then put the leather on the sand
the other peice i put in the tank somewhere else,
maybee iw ill grow into another one
my tank has ok flow on its own so i will position a mj 1200 to blow on it from the otherside of the tank
how long till i can put it in the sand?
it has some small tentacles still protuding from the top so its not dead

I am betting these are probably too high.

its been about 16 hrs since i cut off the bottom peice
looks to me it has thickened up a bit and i see no sliming
got the power head about14-16 inches from it
getting a nice breeze but not too much
how long till i should wait till i bury the stem in the sand ?
or should i superglue it on a nice big peice of rock

just wait. it will take a few days to heal. then put it in the sand and wait a couple more days. after it has grabbed a hold of some sand you can glue the sand to wherever u want. its tough to glue the coral itself. it will normally slime and detatch by itself.

if u have no patience, stick a toothpick through the base and gently rubberband it too a rock.

its obiously apparent with all the problems i went through getting my tank to cycle and mature

after you secure it to the rock and it attaches how do u go about moving it if needs arise
cut the base near the rock?
pull on it?
i dunno know about this
the reason i ask is that maybee in the next few months i may move
and if i have to move the coral i would like to know this

well tday i put the frag on a nice peice of rock
(superglue)
after 4 days from cutting the bad damaged peice off
she is looking good
now is the test will it grow

well its been almost a week and is looking very good
growth is about 1/3 inch tentacles out fully
but on one side they are not
hmm mybee not gtting enough flow on the other side
top is well expanded
yesterday i got both phyto and zooplankton
will try feeding tonight
