I have no idea what happened! I came home around 12ish and was looking at the tank with the moonlights on. Turn on the flash light real quick and oh my!!! A nice size chunk looks like its missing but its looks like it was bite or I really don't know. Here are pictures:

Keep in mind this is the female, although it doesn't host anything... well maybe my torch. It usually chases the male once in a while and its been a very long time since I have seen the two fight. For right now I managed to scoop her into the refugium to recover.

What I have in my tank:
10 hermits
1 cleaner
5 snails
Corals (LPS. softies, zoos, and mushrooms)

Nothing much that can do that IMO.

Are you sure its not a clown fish hickie? you said the lights were off right?

I havent had many pairs of clown fish , ( prolly 3 pairs total ) and its always the male with missing parts , fins , etc ..

Id say its more likely a coral caused it , just because I have never seen any of my males bite at a female.

Its hard to say , From coral's , to a male clown fish thats had 1 to many to drink , ( real reason my clarkii gets pop eye is because I do not have a host , he likes to sleep against rocks and when the female comes and "spooks him" he wacks his stupid self against it . )

I doubt I have any hitchhikers. I've always looked at my tank at night and even during the day times... i have not seen anything new other then what i put in.

do another hunt real late at night just to be sure. I had a crab i dident see until the 5 month mark. that one came with a piece of LR...

I ordered some star polyps, and thru it in qt just to be sure.. and low and behold a baby crab was under the mat.

ive never had to see it happen but ive heard of crabs jumping on sleeping fish before.
thats the only thing i can come up with. just keep an eye on things.
