something eating my duncans?

So I noticed this off and on for the last month or so, They still open up and eat well, I only notice it when they are closed. It is like a hole in them, sand gets in there because they where on the floor of the tank. when I decided to move them up I decided to take pics and see what you guys thought. I took a Q tip and tried to clean all the sand and stuff out and it is like a hole.

I'm not sure what hole your talking about exactly. I don't have duncans myself but are you referring to their mouth in the center of the polyp?

No, I'm not talking about the mouths. Thank you for your reply so I can clairify so maybe I can get some feedback, on the first picture, the large head in the middle, on the brownish rim are three "holes" that are kinda redish brown themselves with white specs in them. The white specs are sand, the holes are I don't know what. I have had the piece for 6-8 months. the tank is comming up on its 1 year mark next month. The piece started with 3 heads and has now grown to 14.

I have some duncans that looked like they were being eaten also so I watched my fish for about an hr straight thinking one of then was hitting it then I discovered that my moon coral with sweeper tentacles extending almost 10 inches long was stinging the heck out of it.

was it leaving holes in it like the pictures? although my duncans are by themselves, I don't have anything close to them that sweepers can reach

Looks like new formations, buds if you like. If the Duncan fully extends and takes food no worries. Like most other fleshy LPS, if it gets infected or starts to die you will see the brown slime and it will smell really bad. Duncans are a very hardy coral.

ok thanks, I hope that is what it is, since I moved it out of the sand and up on a rock it doesn't close up anymore so I can't tell if they are getting worse or not. I'll check it on my next water change
