Something goes wrong with my Tang - [help please]

Hello,

I recently realize the wound on my hippo tang is not the result of fish fighting.

Right side 1
Right side 2

The other side is OK.
Left side

The hippo is still eating like a pig. He is swimming as normal. I have this fish for 3 months now. The other fishies are fine too.

I am new to the saltwater world. Could the expert please tell me if I have to take the hippo out of the tank to prevent the transmit disease? Also, is there a medicine for this?

Thanks

Probably some sort of bacterial infection. Remove to a quarantine tank. Treat with furan2 antibiotic. Watch for buildup of Ammonia in QT. Treat for seven days. QT willhave no biofilter. Don't feed during treatment.

I'm definately not an expert, but it looks more like an infection of some sort, rather than a disease, so I wouldn't worry about transmitting it to other fish. That might get you started on where to look. Regardless, he's a handsome fish. Good luck.

Some antibiotics (neomycin and kanamycin eg) are known to only depress the nitification bacteria and will not kill them outright. Nitrification does not stop altogether.

Chloromycetin will destroy nitrification.
