Something I just realized

I guess most of you already knew it but I just realized something by looking at a closeup pic. You know how millepora are very "shaggy". Well, only one tentacle per polyp is long and shaggy, always the lower one.

OK because i'm such a nerd I just hunted down the answer. The short tentacles are for feeding and the long ones are for self defense. Evolutionarily they believe the long one is on the bottom because otherwise it may block food travelling downward in the water column.

yeah, I'm a geek, I know. ;)

Sometimes when I have a long piece of acro to frag I cut it up in 1 inch "joints" and glue them up. In the past I have sometimes noticed that I had some upside down. They just grew right along with the rest. I don't remember doing this on a mille but I wonder what it would do?

Harry,
Cool observation.
BTW, that evolution is brilliant...it's almost like it was a super intelligent thinking being :D
