Something on my Rainbow Monti at night

Hello Everyone,

I have had a fish only for 5 years and i am now turning it into a reef so I am a newbie when it comes to corals. I have a rainbow and sunset monti. Last night when i was feeding the corals I noticed that there was a white cotton like fuzz coming out two spots on the monti. It looked like it could be feeding tentacles but im not sure. I dont think they feed that way any help would be appreciated. I just wanna nip this before it gets too bad.

Feather dusters from the sounds of it.
Shouldn't be anything to worry.

On certain montipora's they do have fuzzy white tentacles that protrude during feeding time. So that may be your other experience.

It did come out after I put food in the tank so I hope so. Thank you

check to make sure they aren't monti eating nudibranch...

dip using Three Little Fishies Rivive.

I actually dipped them for ten minutes with revive when i first got them about a week ago. I hope its not that. It did look like it was catching food in the current and not munching on the actual monti but nudi's did cross my mind.

Cool, but dips don't kill eggs so mayb want to redip:D

another sign is when you start see white spots on the monti itself.

Your description sounds slightly like it might be a vermetid snail, but I could be wrong. Does it look like a snotty, spider webby, strands that are coming out of a single point?

If it is vermetid snails, theyre not really a pest as much as a nuissance. Their slime can irritate corals, but they dont prey on corals.

If that's the case, a wrasse or CBB will clean it right up.

Keep that population on check.

Watch out for your corals with the CCB, they're known to nip.

There is a vermetid snail on the sunset monti frag that i got. He has a snotty web filtering the water. This looked like a cottony substance that looked like the monti was using to filter the water almost like a vermetid does.

I do have a red margin wrasse so if she does see them hopefully she will go after them.
