Hello again,

I have replaced Bioptim with vodka. I am finding better results with vodka, increased skimmate, water clarity, etc.

I still use Biodigest but may give the Brightwell Bacteria a shot soon.

Do you mean the other way round? i thought biodigest would be the same as vodka?

thanks

Hi Sonny, I know you said you took out the procolor and the colors are still great without it. Do the pinks still look good without the red spectrum. I am running 2 UVL aquasuns and this is kind of similar maybe not quite as red as a procolor though. Thanks

Well the Procolor was very subtle so I really havent noticed a big difference. I love the Ice blue color the combo of Blue+ and Aquablue Special give off. I am very happy with my current bulb combo as I am getting great color and growth.

Biodigest is bacteria, Bioptim is the fuel for the bacteria.

UPDATE:

Well, I have been dosing vodka for a month now and so far so good. The tank is clean and growth has really exploded. The only thing I did not like was the growth of red slime. The vodka is feeding the slime and causeing it to grow.

I dropped in some red slime remover the other day and my corals were not happy with it. I have since done a 40% water change and added a large bag of carbon. My skimmer has not been able to come online for 3 days now because the medication is making it go nuts. The red slime remover didn't even take out all the red slime.

I hate medicating my tank so it looks like the vodka is going bye bye.

Ohh well, it was fun while it lasted.

You might want to reduce your photo period to about 3 hours per day(for 4 consecutive days). Then siphon out the dead and dying mats of red slime.

Well the red slime is nowhere to be seen on sand, only on some of the rocks. I am going to play around with some of my flow to see what can be done.

It may not even be red slime. Its look less slimy and more like velvet or something.

I had the same velvety stuff after overdosing ZEO a little. It was mainly in the rocks with a little on the sand.

Just read through the thread for the first time. Great looking tank Sonny! The information on T5 lighting has been very informative.

Any updated pics that show coral growth?

Hey Sonny hows it going? Any updates? Pics?

Sorry for the lack of updates, I have been busy between work and school. The tank is looking good, and everything is growing great.

I will try to get some updated pics up tomorrow.

Thanks! :D

Sonny, I have been dosing Vodka as well here lately. It seems that the tank has broke out with a small case of brown/red slime. Did you do anything extra to get rid of your when it happened besides discontinuing use?

Looking forward to seeing the pics as well. Your tank is good for my thought processes for my tank, I just wish I would move a little faster to get it up and going. LOL

Hey Sonny,

I can't wait to see some updated shots of your tank.... I just ordered my own new tank with just about the same dimensions as yours so, I'm pretty excited about that! I'm planning on a nice open aqua scape like yours and a few others here on RC that I've seen.

I'll be sure to put up a build thread when I get to that stage!
