Sorry...but please pick my ROCK

I know this has been asked 100’s of times…so I apologize in advance for beating this horse.

BUT…….

There are plethora of live rock types and rock sellers out there. If you could buy any rock for your aquarium what would you choose (even mix and match types) and from who? I plan to order some in the next week or so for my new 30G. I am not concerned about the price, because it will be in there for years and I think if I were to splurge on anything it would be something that I am going to look at every day and never replace.

Thanks reefers,
Mark

p.s. sorry again for this FAQ, but things do change.

I'd have a mix of Cherry Picked Fiji Rock from Marcorocks, and then some Tonga Shelf Rock from either Marcorocks, or Bulkreefsupply.com

I set my tank up about a month ago with 40 LBS of Fiji from Reefermadness that was in a smaller tank for over a year. I complimented that with 50 lbs of the Shelf Rock from BulkReefSupply.

I've seen the Marco in person as well. Man that stuff is crazy!!

I just bought 900 lbs thru four different vendors, got the last 100 lbs for $1.99 a lb off ebay figured it couldnt hurt. Now I wish I had bought the whole 900 lbs their, it was fiji rock

If price is not an issue then I would go check out the local fish stores and cherry pick the rocks.

Don't forget to call around to stores in your area. You can save a lot of money and have less cycling/curing time by buying it locally.

I love the Marshall Island LRs but can't find them anymore. If someone know where to get them please let me know.

The export of Marshall rock shut-down a while ago. It will start coming out again when all the hoops have been jumped through and the tees have been crossed.

Tonga just shut down and I'm sure the in hand supply will start being used up quickly so there will be a shortage of Tonga rock until it can start shipping out again.

I like www.oceanproaquatics.com/shop , a lot of the sellers on ebay sell their rocks. They have walt smith if that's something you're interested in. My tank is a mix of fiji, tonga shelf/slab, and south pacific bamboni. They guarantee their rocks to be free of aiptasia and mantis shrimp, and their prices are fair, I'd check them out.

I have kaelini (I think that's how to spell it) I bought at a lfs. If money is not an issue and you're concerned about looks that's the way to go. Some will give a price break after a certain amount of lbs.

I got my rocks from marco rocks and love it. It has a ton of open spaces for the fish and water to go through the rocks. It also cheaper than using all live rock and if you keep your calcium and magnesium up it will be coraline encrusted in no time. Nancy

I bought 90lbs of Fiji Lalo from LiveAquaria which is nice rock. Lots of nooks and crannies with interesting shapes. I also ordered 35lbs of Gulf Rock from Sea Life Inc. mainly to get a more 'live' rock and for the diversity of critters. Talk about LIVE rock! The box was litterally crawling. Crabs, sponges, worms, pods, nice coralline and the rocks were nicely formed with plenty of holes and interesting shapes. Once my tank finished cycling the life in it took off.
