Wow the kitchen looks awesome! I like the choice on cabinets too with the new appliances!

My wife is looking at the same fridge I think LOL. Will be in my best interest not to show her or that will be next on the list!

You have the emerald 39? If so what pump are you using for your return? I should have measured my pump or the return section when I had them move walls as I am seriously concerned that my Fluval SP6 will not fit in the return chamber.

Its not he end of the world as I wanted an apex compatible pump but I was holding out for more companies to come to the table with pumps before I made the switch. Regardless I need pump for my 75 gallon holding tank so I can move the SP to that if needed.

I like the fridge but I wish we had gone with the smaller model which is not so deep. That way it woudl have been more flush with the pantry and had a better overall look.

I am hoping by the end of this weekend that I can have the back splash, paint, toe kick, and at least the starter moulding for the crown up. I fear that the sump replacement might get bumped another weekend as I REALLY want this kitchen done.

That said tonight is water change night so I will take some picks of some of the new goodies i have been adding. Just because I can't swap out equipment doesn't mean I cant add corals. HA HA. I need to stop now though so I can get Reef's frags in 2 weeks and whatever I find up at reefapalooza.

I have the Emerald 34. I am using the M1 Vectra what an awesome pump. Other than not being able to control with apex. It is almost silent. So you mentioned Reefapalooza, I will be present also never been should be cool.

I think I am heading up Sat morning but not definite yet. Waiting on Reef to let me know what works for him as he has some frags for me.

I was holding out hope that the COR would be out this year but no go on that front. I like the Vectra but as I have zero ecotech products I have little desire to get into a brand that wont work with my Apex long term. I like synergy and not competing ecosystems for the tank tech.

Yeah I tried holding out for the COR, could not wait any longer. Went with Ecotech because they have a good resale value IMO. There other pumps work flawlessly with apex and I like the control of them when time comes I will get the COR.

Cleaned up the tank today and took some shots. Not all came out that well as I need the wife to use her camera. I cant figure out the DSLR and how to get it to work. That is her schpeel.

Anywho here are some of the pics I took:

Sunset mille. Pink and green mix with a sort of bluish PE.

Here is what was sold as a pearlberry though the blue polyps are not ut at the moment with the water change.:

My ****ed off aveopora. It is normally ballooned up but with water change and squirting rocks it closed up mostly.

Looking good. I will be heading to Reefapalooza on Sunday. To bad I will miss ya nice to meet people from the forum. Have you ever been? Do you know if they do raffles on Sunday and are the deals that much better at these shows?

I went last year and the raffles were ok but nothing like MACNA.

deals can be had and and on sunday you will get closeout deals but will less coral selection. Benefit to going either day in terms of deals. It is a lot of fun though and some awesome things to see...

I also forgot to mention that the tank is now running with kalk in the ATO. My levels were dropping (mainly due to my missed water changes) so I wanted to stabilize them. I may be able to go kalk free again once I get the AWC running but am unsure yet.

While I might not totally need to I would prefer to go 2 part for a while since I bought the gear for it and it is just sitting there. Basically have $800 worth of doser, containers, and media sitting around unused. That or I need to sell it all and go calcium reactor and just go that route which is a bit more stable then 2 part if you get good parts.

I also have some actinic bulbs coming in this week. I will probably replace 1 blue + with one and potentially 2 blue+ with them to bring out more of a pop from my acans and promote some more growth and color shift. I do need to order in one more bracket for my Kessil a360 so I can mount in canopy with the other 2 as well.

If you plan on selling some stuff let me know. I'm still deciding between dosing kalk with an ATO or dosing pumps like the BRS 1.1ml for my nano.

Our Pearlberrys look the same but your looks more intense probably due to your lights. I just noticed the other day some PE on the base of mine but they were green not blue. Not extended much probably due to my Coral Beauty who seems to like the few SPS in the tank but leaves my zoas and LPS alone.

My doser is the pacific sun Kore 5th doser not BRS ones. I sold them a while ago without ever using them.

I am hoping the actinic will bring out the pearlberry even more but will wait and see on that one.

So in an effort to cause myself more work I was thinking last night to convert to a bean animal setup and run my return line through the rear of the canopy by cutting a hole. My concern is fitting in the 3 pipes in the overflow with the returns coming back in. Since I upped the size of the returns when I replaced the stuff SC sent I had to cut a tooth out of the overflow on either side. I'm thinking I can have the third emergency like I have it now tucked in the back of the overflow and coming up under the glass eurobrace. The other two since they would be full siphon (one with air break) would be able to come up on the ends.

Just a thought I am playing with. I havent had any issues with the Herbie but it is a bit finicky with tuning. A bean would allow me to set it and forget it BUT I would have the return over the top and should I ever go canopy free that will bother me.

Thoughts?

Water change station update - I have the main mixing barrel cleaning with a RODI/Vinegar solution running now to clean out the plumbing, pumps, and mixing container. I will wipe it down tonight and allow it to dry for a few days. I have decided to buy some plastic pex fittings from HD. I have a ton of pex left over from my kitchen so it makes sense to use it for running water from the current mixing station to the new one. If I put two swivel 90 degree adaptors onto the top of the container lid I should also be able to screw and unscrew it without taking any of the connections off. I also plan on murlock bulkheads for the tubing for the DOS to enter the 75 container.

The smaller 35 gallon station will remain as is with the exception of adding 2 cam lock adapters to it to send water to tank and to the 75 gallon drum. I will put a cam lock on the end of the pex with some soft silicone tubing on the end that connects tot he 35 gal tank so I am not forced to have it sit in one place in the basement. I do need to move them around some whereas the 75 gallon drum will remain stationary.

The 75 gallon drum will also be right by my utility sink in the basement which would be perfect for water change drains. I am thinking of getting an external pump like an IWakki or such which should have a TON of power to pump water from the tank faster then the manual siphon I use now. The iwakki would also be the mixing pump for the 75 gallon drum and for larger water changes upon need. The SP4 on the current water change would send water to the larger drum as needed but no longer to the tank.

Horrible layout but you get idea:

Side view doesnt mean to post the pics sideways. :D

Looks good actually.

I totally agree with you on the look of the over the top return if you ever decide to ditch the canopy, but you could always go back to a herbie in that case. I personally would drain the tank down as far as possible and drill the back for the return. Of course its much easier to do empty, but it can be done.

Yeah drilling not something I want to do at this point with items in the tank. I think I will leave it Herbie for the time being I guess so I dont have to worry about anything. I will probably just lower the drain pipe so I have more wiggle room and need to tune less. The large sump should be able to handle the entire overflow box draining if I wanted but I will have to test before I try that one...

I will just ensure that the next tank is a custom done for my by Steve so I can get it exactly like I want with external box and such.
