Soulpatch's 150 SC build

BTW if any of you are looking for a sump I got a deal on barely used trigger. Lol.

Looking awesome Soulpatch. I just got from our beach vacation. I need to do a water change and clean the tank today, then leaving for Chicago Tue-Wed. I really want to get started on my AWC setup and will most likely reach out to you on ideas and planning. I have a lot of work to do in the basement before anything actually gets implemented, but no harm in planning now.

I leave for the beach this weekend for a week so we can set it up when I get back. What pumps are you planning to use tim?

so the new sump has one issue I am not used to and that is the smaller return pump section of the sump. My SP6 sits high and as such is drawing air at times. I had a buddy pick me up some plumbing bits only to realize when I went to put them on the the SP6 is 1.25" and not the 1.5" parts I had on hand. So I will have to stop tomorrow. Basically I am going to throw an elbow on the pump pointed down so it will draw from the bottom of the section and it should negate any of my issues.

I thought about slowing it down and I have to a degree but much more and I have to also slow down my drain as it drains the overflow and starts to make gurgling noises. I prefer wide open drains and as such plan on leaving them. So I will get the parts tomorrow and do it right.

I added my RW4 to the fuge section since I don't need it sitting in a box.as the biocube is down. It had a nice long vinegar bath yesterday along with the gyre 130 and looks brand new. It is currently on low power but enough to make my small bit of chateo tumble in the fuge. I do need some more chateo as mine looks rough and I want one with some pods already populating in it. I have not seen many pods in my sump since the swap and my wrasse keeps them at bay to a degree in the tank. I am hoping with the better fuge layout along with better overall sump layout for what I need that I can get that population going in the tank. I will likely place an algae barn order here shortly after vacation.

Finally the only other 2 updates to the tank this week will be the placing of the gyre 130 in the tank on the overflow. I am hoping with the WAVs on either end pushing towards the center that the gyre pushing to the front middle will cause a bit more chaos in water movement and will help clear up a few deadspots I am having.right below the overflow. If this doesn't go as planned then I will likely get another RW4 and use those 2 in the tank and put the gyre in the sump. Overkill yes but its not like I need it for anything else at the moment.

My two clowns, wrasse, and 2 cardinals are doing fantastic. I am still unsure what swept through my tank and killed some of my fish but I am hopeful it is gone. While I am not ready to start bringing in fish yet I have been thinking of the stock I will go with once I am ready to go again.

I am thinking of trying a blue throat trigger with a couple tangs and maybe a small blue spot puffer or such that should add some character to the tank. I need another blenny type fish too but am unsure what to get at this point since I like their personalities but I do not have a ton of algae to eat in the tank. Still hoping to have enough pods in the tank so I can rock a mandarin by the end of the year as well but as of right now that is looking unlikely.

Return pump now has a threaded 90 and all is well again. I was also having some issues with vibration and the neoprene was not helping as it was in the ruby elite. I think this is due to the smaller compartment not allowing the vibrations to dissipate before it hit the acrylic walls. Basically acting like a form of subwoofer.

So I bought this and threw it on the tank today: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015HS63JG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It works awesome. No more horrible vibrations. It even looks much better

That's super funny, I have something similar in between my tank and HOB skimmer. Now I just need some sound deadening foam to put against the wall to cut out the sound deflection. Sucks not having a sump.

Blue Throat Triggers are nice looking. I always wanted to make a tank with just an Undulated Trigger and Dragon Eel.

Yeah I want larger fish in the tank and only a few I think so I can be mainly corals.

Went to let the dogs out last night around 11:15 and walked past the tank. I saw my small clown hosting the large torch that I have. I was thinking AWWE for all of 2 seconds till I realized that the larger clown was no where to be seen. I immediately thought of the one tooth on the overflow I snapped off which left a bigger hole on the side (need to get some weld on to fix) and as such I climber up on my step stool with flashlight in hand and looked into the overflow. Sure enough there he was.

I had to kill the return pump plumbing (valves for the win) and pull that pipe so I could even get in the overflow. I think he knew he had screwed up as when i lowered a net in the overflow he swam right into it. Back into the tank he went and directly for the torch with his little buddy.

Not wanting this to happen again before I can fix the teeth I grabbed my one old small fish net, cut off the handle and a small hole in the net. I then put the return plumbing through the hole in the net and have the net now sitting over the gap in the overflow. Protective barrier if you will.

So I talked to SC and they are looking to make the overtop tops so I have less risk of a fish jumping into my overflow.

Yesterday was amazon prime day so I picked up a wifi web cam, Taotronics grow light, and some acrylic glue so I can fix my one overflow tooth.

I go on vacation this weekend and plan on using the cam to keep track of my tank. I will also have the stand doors open so I can see anything going on in the sump. With the apex I can turn things on/off as needed.

One thing I will be doing is filling up a bucket of water and putting that next to my ATO container. I go through more RODI in a week then my container will hold (yes over 8 gallons a week) and as such having another 6 gallons in a HD bucket next to it should buy me enough time for the vacation. I will have a MJ1200 pump in it and will simply toggle it on part way through the week to refill my ATO container.

Your tank is great! Can not wait to see this filled with coral and fish. The camera is a great addition, added mine a week ago great to see what is going on. Do you plan to have your RODI fill the ATO in the future? It is just one less thing to have to worry about. As I go through more than 5 gallons a week so I feel your pain. The lager foot print of your tank is awesome.

I do plan for the ATO to handle things to a degree. I will be running a line to the ATO through the wall when I run my auto water change lines. I am still thinking on how I want it to go as I have a serious fear of floats or solenoids failing and I already have redone the basement once due to a tank flood. I think I will still be hands on with it and just have a T from my mixing station that will send RODI to the tank and a simple ball valve on the pipe to still manually fill it for a while.

I dont want to drill my BAO ATO to put in a manual float valve so I have considered using 2 digital solenoids (have I mentioned I am paranoid?) on the line and a float in the ATO container. I have one float in there anlready to warn when water level is low and I would add another one for high water level. The 2 solenoids would be an always open and always closed so I would just have to open the one to fill and should it get stuck i would fire up the other to kill the line. Least that is my intention. I need to look into the solenoids some more and will likely be a fall project.

I need the AWC running first and to get my corals up and healthy. I also need to sell some unused gear after vacation and get myself a calcium reactor as I dont think I want to deal with the hassle of dosing. Just have to decide if I want to start with calc reactor or try my hand with the dosing gear I already have as it is in hand and paid for... We shall see.

As for ATO use.... I go through over a gallon a day. Probably closer to 2 gallons if I am honest and that is with a canopy on which likely limits it some.

So I set up my new amcrest camera before I left for vacation and opened my stand doors. The camera can pan and tilt as well as slight digital zoom. Works out perfect for watching things.

Knowing my evap rate would exceed my 8 gallon container in the 9 days I am away I put and bucket filled with a mj1200 pump in it and piped into the top of the ato container. South clip of switch on my apex I can pump some water into the container to top off my top off. Berm working great and HD bucket is about empty. Remaining 7 gallons or so in the ato will get me to end of vacation.

Also awesome top sit in porch at beach and have the sights of the bay and my fish tank...

I am so behind on tank to do's... seeing your apex all set up has me jealous and is making me motivated to set some time aside and get mine configured.... i'm having a hard time connecting with the gaming adapter. Is yours hardwired?

My apex needs redone. I am going to remove my slide out nd mount it all on the wall and the controllers to some pumps and such to a small drop down piece of wood so I can move them out of the way on the top of the stand.

As to the wiring Blink - I have the netgear adapter that I wire into. My router is in the room so I could hard wire to that but I didn't want to run the wires across the room. I don't have issues with the adapter once set up. I also do firmware updates through it without issue.

This week after vacation I need to flip out some T5 bulbs to the actinics I have, finish my water change station, and FINALLY set up my AWC.

I have 2 deadspots in my tank by the overflow so I need to figure out what to do. I am slightly torn. I can put in my one gyre and spend another $300 roughly to get another and put in ice cap for control OR I can spend 140 for 2 PP15 and just go that route. For cost I am leaning towards the PP15 but still undecided. I could also just get the gyre 130 to match the one I have and simply not use the controller as I should be able to leave them on all the time with the WAVS in the tank being variable to mix things up.

I might through the one gyre in the tank to see how it works out on the one side to see if it can deal with the deadspot and not kick up sand.
