Soulpatch's 150 SC build

You talking just mixing the salt for that change? If so then you should always stir up the salt before use if you wont be using the entire container. Otherwise the salt and added elements settle in the container in different layers and thus will mix up to various levels when you finally use them.

As for when once mixed it appears only alk precips out from all the reading I am doing. Tex and I are going to run some tests though to verify over the next couple of weeks.

Though if this is the case (as I suspect it is) I will need to do a LOT of testing once I get the calcium reactor online. I am sort of thinking that AWC is not a viable solution if I cant get things stable. I do not want to be dosing alk to keep things in check once the calcium reactor comes online.
That's the thing I always laid the bucket on its side and rolled around a bit before grabbing salt. And after using the salt I would mix it with the scoop.

Soulpatch, Thanks for the PM, as previously stated it looks like some of this alkalinity dropping is a known entity. The question for me is where is this alk going both in storage and in the DT. I will run some tests myself and post some of the results. I may start a thread for all of us to compare notes.

Manual dosing has gotten my alk back in line. I have been checking the tank after doing a manual water change last weekend and turning the AWC back on. I need to test both the AWC res and the tank again tonight but my numbers are holding steady enough for now but my AWC water is fresh so I do not expect the alk to participate out yet and it shoudl over the course of the next week. I just need to keep an eye on things as well as likely buy more test kits.

I have a current FTS I will post in next post as it is on my phone.

For next step we are almost to the holiday which I expect a couple goodies. I found a place who actually will refill my CO2 tank as opposed to exchanging it so i am hopeful to get that done this week or next. I am now facing the conundrum of what to do with my ATO res. Tot he left of my sump I have the ATO res which is decently sized and if I remove that I can leave my Apex and gear in there, put in the new calc reactor setup, and likely remount my reactors in there as they are simply strewn about for now.

I have the storage unit to the left of the tank and could potentially remove a shelf in there to fit the res but then filling it would be a pain. I dont have space behind the stand as I need 18 inches wide and only have 17.5 from wall to stand. No way I am pulling that beast out an inch at this point either... To the right of the stand is the area I normally have my QT tanks and with a closet next to it. I could put it either next to closet or inside but then I have the issue of running the plug to my apex and I wont be able to use the float in it (which honestly I have yet to hook up but keep wanting to so it woudl kill my ato when it gets low and alerts me.)

Thoughts?

At this point I am leaning to the easiest and putting it outside the closet door since the closet stores my sports gear and rarely gets used plus then I dont think I would need to move anything in the stand to support things....

Reef as you can see in the final pic your garf bonsai is doin great and is front and center in the tank. Already spreading happily to the rockwork as it claims its ground. I have even fragged it once already for another reefer.

So per our little discussion earlier about the dropping ALK in stored SW. I mixed up a batch last week and have been checking it daily. It seems I'm loosing about .5 DKH daily in the stored water. CA an MAG are staying steady just loosing ALK. I do not have the brown "stains" in my buckets yet, but I'm only on my second batch in the mixing station.

I have my ATO in a coat closet that sits directly behind my tank(5 gallon water jug). Yes it was a pain to fill, Had to use only that jug(it has a float valve installed to do what you want to do) and fill it with another bucket and a funnel.

I finally got smart after making the mixing station and put a quick disconnect on the float valve and I can easily pull the pump and wire out for filling. Now I just pull the pump and wire, disconnect the float wire, bring it over to my mixing station and fill. Takes all of about 5 minutes now. Put it where its convenient, but remember you can always put it where it's not as long as you make it convenient to fill.

yeah I have a feeling it is going next to the stand on the right side outside the closet. If I put in closet I need to open all the time to see it and that closet can be a mess between all of my hockey and motorcycle gear.

Though while I am moving things I could order in some more tubing and have ability to fill without carrying a bucket.... hmm

You could also install that float valve and not look at it until the apex alerts you. It's what I do. I forget about filling the ATO now as I don't see the jug daily, but the apex lets me know its low with a nice tone, email, and txt. lol

I go through a lot of water. LOL. I evap easily 2 gallons a day now. The thing gets refilled at least twice a week....

Yea I'm evaporating like a mofo right now... and seem to be having intermittent problems with my Tunze ATO pump kicking the water up 3 1/2ft of head from the ATO bin to the sump... your tank is looking great Soulpatch!

What are the outside measurements of the included stand? I'm getting ready to order one and want to make sure it will fit in my designated space. I fine on lentgth, just a little concerned about the width.

I will measure later today. If I were to estimate right now I would say 61x24.5 or so. THe stand in and of itself is 60x24 BUT they have trim around the bottom of the tank which covers the base and adds about .5 in those three sides. The doors also are that .5 inch or so. Hence the 61x24.5

I will measure tonight to confirm though.

Where did you get these such colors are just sick

I happen to have an awesome LFS who works with me when I tell him what I want. He will find what ever colors I am looking for and will also let me sit in on LFS only WYSIWYG auctions so I can spend his money on what I want and take a frag of it or such and he sells the rest. Some of the time the acans I pick out (like th elast couple pics I posted) are soo good looking that he sells the rest of the colony or frags for a good chunk more then what he paid and I get my pieces for free or next to nothing. Needless to say he likes when I am on the market for things. LOL.

SPS I am still trying to pick up on so I trust him to get me things. Also reef shows. Reefapalooza and MACNA are great to see new things and colors that are out there. For instance I saw a bubblegum digi at reefapalooza and should have bought it but I didn't and have been on the hunt ever since for a decent piece. Also some rainbow pocci and such. I am waiting on some of my things to grow out and other items I trade in if their color is not matching what I am looking for.

Sure once they grow out some more so I can frag. There are frag swaps and such in DE and NJ we could meet up at or if they take a while Reeapalooza should be back up in NYC in June

One of these years I'll have to make the trip to Reefapalooza to meet you and reef, and grab some awesome frags from you both. :D
