Soulpatch's 150 SC build

I should also note that if you look back at some of the more recent pics and my bubble algae that I am slowly getting it under control. The uppoer portions of the rock are fairly free of it at this point and I continue to pick at other areas I can easily reach when I am working on the tank. I need to do another suction into a sock session this week to hit some of the lower rocks and get possibly get a leg up on it for once.

Why do your pics come out so blue and mine so magenta? I think our phones (S8 and S8+) have the same sensor and camera app?

Tank looks great though, your coral colonies are filling in nicely. Few questions:

Is that a giant encrusting monti in the 6th shot, in the middle of that rock? It's huge!

When are you going to start fragging acans?

How often and what are you feeding the LPS/Acans/BTA?

Everything looks really great man!

Mind you I have a blue in my lighting. I haev 2 actinic bulbs, 2 blue plus, a coral plus, and a purple for my bulbs mixing with a actinic reef brite strip. I just wish I could figure out a way to show what the corals actually look like in person. I either get way over saturated shots or very dull washed out pics recently. I need to fire up lightroom and manually make edits again.

Yes it is. It is finally starting to grow off the rock down onto the rock below with the acans. I will be able to start snapping off chunks soon. If you blow up that pic you can see all the vertemid snails it grew over. LOL. I do have to look up its name before I start fragging. I have to ask my LFS guy.

When are you going to start fragging acans?

Good question and I dont know. I have one small colony you can see in pic 7 on the left. The pic is misleading as it is a good 30 heads on it when I account for the smalled ones and the fact that that rock drops off out of sight slightly so you dont see whole colony. I need it to color up a bit more. With bringing on the calcium reactor and trying to change carbon and such a bit more frequently I had a small washing out of some of my acan colors. I need to get back to feeding them which I had stopped and allowing them to settle in at my new parameters so they can color back up. Seeing some coming back already and a few other morphing slightly which is cool. Not as vibrant as they were before though.

As for fragging I will await them to get colors I am happy to put my name behind and will cut them up. I have access to a griphen saw if needed. Some however I have growing on rocks I can not take out. I will likely allow them to simply grow and keep them in my tank. I have a few on my sandbed or on rocks I can remove though when that day comes. Considering they add a ton of color to areas I cant easily grow SPS I am likely to keep them.

How often and what are you feeding the LPS/Acans/BTA?

First I do NOT feed my BTAs. they can get whatever they can themselves when I broadcast feed the tank.

My feedings now consist of a mix of:

PE Mysis pellets
PE Mysis cubes
LRS Herb frenzy
Hikari Krill (mainly for trigger)
Hikari Clam on half shell (for trigger and tusk)
Brine Shrimp

Corals get pieces of that but at least once a week I mix up food for them as well. I blend some reef roids with hikari coralife food (BRS Sells is and I love it) I make it into a paste at first and feed LPS with that. It comes out looking like poo honestly but the it sits on the coral mouths and is easily eaten. I then add some more water tot he mix to target feed SPS and broadcast the tank with leftover.

Everything looks really great man!

Thanks. I am getting the growth I was looking for for the most part but I need to dial in my colors now.

Super happy with this past weekends sale paying for my copperband, BRS order, and still having money going into my pocket.

can you edit all your photobucket links by adding ~original to the end of the url so the pictures will show again?

like for example, this for the first picture

tnx.

Done and it was awesome to do so and see some of the growth I have experienced suddenly since the calrx came online. Corals in months have grown 10x and such.

Also though it shows I really need to dial in my numbers with other items to get my colors back on the acans. I have lost significant color in some pieces whereas others look the same.

thanks for updating. that is good till photobucket figures out the hack and kills it. :)

anyway, want to ask you about the true union ball valve you used. I read its Red Flag brand? Does it work fine? like does it turn easy and no leaks so far?

I have zero issues with the valves and can not tell the difference from the Spear I got from BRS that are on my dad's tank. They have been on tank for some time now with plently of algae issues and such and yet they turn without issue.

When I swapped the sump I was very pleased with how they looked and held up without any issues.

Cool pic of my brain and Duncan fighting last night. Apparently the brain doesn't like the Duncan anymore

I think I need to get in some new bulbs for my T5. I recently saw Reef brite has a newer line out that is nicely priced which would save me roughly 30 bucks.

I just need to figure out which bulbs ATI/reef bright I want to go with for all 6 bulbs so I can continue to get the growth I have been seeing but more importantly start to pull out the pinks and such in my Disney...

Suggestions?

Have you spent days upon days going through the Grim Reefer's T5 coloration thread (that thread has to be ~10 years old now, and still active)? I don't know much about T5s directly, so not too much to help with unfortunately.

FYI I ended up using your replacement splash shield after modding mine. I found out that there isn't enough clearance between the LEDs on the heatsink and the splash guard to slip a 1/4" piece of glass in between them. So my options are put the 1/4" glass on the outside and hope the silicone holds with no issues, or just give up and hope one day to move to a new tank :p

yeah I have read through some of that thread but a lot of the bulbs have changed spectrum ever so slightly over the years as well which makes things harder to nail down.

Plus some of these acro strains have odd needs to really pull out the colors. I can't go MH nor would I want to so for now I need to figure out which combo to run.

I have posted a couple times in that thread (current version as there are like 10 snippets of it on here due to size) and have a question about this posted now.

Checkout this URL and scroll down to the "ATI T5 Bulb Combinations". When you click on it, it will open a PDF of various bulb combinations. For my tank, I'm using the 6 bulb 20k Heavy Blue combo. It looks nice to me and my corals seem to enjoy it. Keep in mind that I also have 2 RB XHO all blue 4' LED strips - one on each side of my T5s. I'm very pleased with look and how the corals grow under that light combo. But every tank is different so you may choose something totally different.

I feel like an idiot. I thought I had swapped bulbs earlier this year but I am not on month 10 with these bulbs which means I am well past the 6-8 month mark and have some spectrum shift going on. New bulbs have been ordered so I shall see how that does.

I used to change mine every 9 months but I've read more and more that ATI bulbs can go 12 months... maybe a little more. So I have been changing mine every 12 months. Mine are due to be changed next month and I had ordered the bulbs but when I received them, 4 of the 6 were broke and one had a bent end so only one bulb was any good. I'm supposed to get the replacements this Friday... wish me luck!

the par values stay about the same for up to 12 months but the spectrum starts to shift after 6 months from everything I have read.

reef brite just launched some new bulbs as well which are a bit cheaper. I will likely get a couple of those in shortly to test them out while still having decent quality ati bulbs should I need to switch back.

Hey, you should check out the hacked Google Camera APK for the Galaxy S8. I'm sure you'll see my thread pop up, but man, the pics come out so nice (though mine are from top down, which I'm sure helps them come out nice). Tank and corals are looking good though man!

What lighting combo are you on now and did you settle on for the replacement?

Which Google hack?

I just dl Lightroom and Photoshop to my phone to help for future pics. I pay for the subscription so might as well use it.

For lighting staying with same bulbs for this go around. I didn't realize how old mine were when I got a lot of the top shelf sps. Honestly the color I have with 10 or 11 month old bulbs is not bad.

Really need pinks to pop though. I might grab a Fiji purple if the purple plus doesn't pan out

It's a modified version of the Google Pixel "Camera" app APK from here. It takes really nice pictures, better than the ones from the stock camera app.

I can't afford a CS/lightroom subscription. I can't believe how much those jerks charge. I'd buy it if it were a $100 one time fee, but seriously, really expensive subscriptions (even with education discount or whatever)?!

Good ol' Fiji Purple... (though I thought it was pink).

I pay like $8 bucks a month for the subscription to both lightroom and photoshop. I aqree with you in that I wish it was a one time license fee but subscription model is here to stay. The nice thing is that I can have it across all devices including phone.
