There was a thread going on at a different forum about a guy who's fish all got ich. One person posted a reply that the reason his purple tang got ich was because the 55g tank the fish was in was too small, to which I replied the size of the tank did not CAUSE the ich.
Well this guy insists putting a fish in a tank too small will cause ich. He does agree that if a fish does not have ich, it won't get it without being infected from another fish. But he is insisting that by putting a perfectly healty fish in a tank too small, it will get ich.
I do think a 55 is a little too small for that particular fish, but I do not believe that will cause any ich problem.
So, can I get some though on this?
Will putting a non infected fish in a smaller than recommended tank bring on ich?

Ich is a parasite by the name of Cryptocaryon irritans. It must be present for a fish to become infested. You could keep a tang in a 1-gallon fish bowl and it won't get ich unless that parasite is present.

Thank you for confirming what I was trying to tell him.
Sort of funny, because I told him you could keep a healthy tang in a gold fish bowl too, and it won't get infected....
