Soundproofing your Through the wall

I posted this question in my build thread, but thought I would ask here on the LT Forum...

What steps have you taken to soundproof your equipment room from the display / viewing area?

One reason we went with a through the wall installation was to remove the noise of pumps, fans, etc, from our living area.

Now that the tank is in place, it occurs to me that while we will be using fewer pumps for the big tank, they will be LARGER pumps. I expect quite a din from the Baldor motor on the Reeflo Orca 250, combined with a pair of Barracuda Gold for the CL and returns.

I plan to use rubber mats under all pumps, skimmer, anything that might cause vibration that could be transmitted to plywood and the steel stand. The mat is the type of material used for horses to stand in horse trailers... available at the local farm supply stores...can be cut to size...

My question is: Has anyone used some type of foam panels or other sound deadening product on the interior of your stand doors to reduce noise that might pass through the thin panels?

What other type of soundproofing have you tried successfully?

If you have used a product you recommend, please let me know what you used, where you found it, photos would be great!

Thanks!

I havent used it, but i bet that ruberized under coating(its made for under cars/trucks as bedliners) would work great). They sell it anywhere. The rubber coating would dampen some noise and keep the wood dry! Its sold in spray cans too, just an idea

I have used a similar product in tank stands...make spills easy to clean up - I hadn' t considered it as sound-absorbing...but I'm sure you're correct...

Depending on how much area you are covering, you can use Car Audio coverings such as Dynomat or Deadbeat. Not sure if Deadbeat is still around. Those are what I used to cover metal in a car to stop the rattles from 'loud' car stereo systems. You could prpbably use them along the inside of the stand on panels to deaden the sound coming out of the fish room. It is expensive but it works.

Thanks for that suggestion - googling for those products, I found this site and information:

Amazing what you can dig up online...

Dynamat will definatly do the trick

How thick is it?

Where is a good source for Dynamat at a reasonable (cheap as possible) price?

Thanks.
