sounds like Tropical Aquarium is going

Hector will be missed.. Living in Brunswick myself I loved the fact I could drive over and pick up items in less than 5 minutes. I guess Brunsucky has claimed another business.

never made it out to his store but it definitely is sad to hear that. im sure a lot has to do with the economy and is tough for any small business owner in times like this. im sure if he did move to the eastside he probably would pick up a lot of business from us eastsiders but being shut down for a move plus setting up a whole new building would probably cost an unreasonable price that a small business owner couldn't afford. i am very surprised a sw store hasn't popped up in the mentor area though. seems like every other kind of business has except for that.

They have come and gone as well, Coral Connection used to be off of Lost Nation. If I recall, there used to be a store in Burton as well. Unfortunately, in this hobby, its a very limited market. My guess is sooner or later, there will be one again.

I agree with the fact of not having much livestock. I have been there a few times looking for the simple things like cleaner shrimp and hermits with no luck.

It is official I talked to Hector today and he has officially closed his doors. He asked me to post this on here and let everyone that he is not selling any of his equipment or livestock. He said he is just closing his doors and and maybe open something out of his basement. Bummer to see another fish store go out of business!!!!! Hector was a great guy.

I'm very sad to see them go as well. Have been going there since the day he opened. Hector and Julie have always treated me and my family very well. Hopefully things will turn around and he can open back up in the future!

This really stinks!!! I did not get a chance to get there yet. I guess I better get to salty's before anything (God forbid) may happen up there. After going to the swap I thought that the hobby is on the up and up. Or is it that all the lfs's are closing and they all came from all over to get a chance at what they once had. Kind of gives you a little false hope if you think about it in thoes terms. Never the less, there is a bigger demand and enthusiasim(spell?) than I first anticippated. And everyone that I have met, has for the most part been good people. (this includes c-sea). I Have never met Hector but I wish him the best of luck for the future. Pretty soon they will be coming to us for clams to trade when the buck has been beaten. Then who will be on top.LoL!

If Hector can operate out of his basement for awhile with no overhead of a store front and ensuing utility costs I have no doubt that with his knowledge of the hobby he will eventually be another Salty Critter or Phishy Business both Dan and Sadar started in their basements and grew out of them. Hector jumped in with both feet and was making it till the economy slowed and then broke. I wish him well and cannot wait for him to start up again.

I never talked to Hector but stopped in a few times. Its sad to say but if you don't have anything to offer no one is going to visit. He never had any fish or coral in. I went a 3 times and never bought anything. I always wondered if he was going out of business or what.

Hi,

It sure sounds like they were great people but I feel the same way pws does. I went to his shop 2-3 times & saw very little live stock or corals so I never went back. It's kind of a catch 22 situation, you need the stock to bring in the customers but you need money from customers to buy stock. I wish him the best of luck.

I agree.....with low overhead, he can hopefully offer more product at cheap prices....word of mouth will follow....he really needs to get on the net with a website....

That really sucks. Hector and Julie have always been really nice to me, even before tropical when he worked at rms. I wish they would have had more loyal customers like salty does and maybe better wholesalers! Times are tough.
