My male looks just like the first picture. I purchased a trio from liveaquaria about three months ago and they sent me a male and two females. If you find females, one will change eventually. I love mine, very cool fish. They ate immediately and stick together pretty well.

Did you get yours from Diversden or from LA?
Did your male look like that immediately or did he take time to change?
thanks much for your help

They came from the regular LA site, not DD.

The male had male coloration from the start, minus the blue outline on the bottom of the body Which he developed within the first few weeks of being in my QT.

Watch DD every day, they often have mature trios of Dispars. If you can wait, you can buy a trio, or more and one will probably develop into a "super male". Most anthias are sold as immature fish, at least the ones I've bought. (Other than DD-type sites and diver direct.)

Good luck with them, they are great fish. I dont know if I got lucky or not but mine have been very easy to care for, eating almost immediately. I know most anthias species can be finicky with food, but that hasn't been my experience with these at all.
