southdown sand

Yeah...I know you only need three bags....but I hate to get rid of them because I'll be in the same predicament when it comes time for me to upgrade.

Well, maybe more research has been done since I had the sand debate, but I'm staying away from it.

But if that stuff you've found is aragonite sand, I'd buy it.

still no answer on it if it is i will get some just want to find out about shipping costs did you look at the website on 3 bags they ship ups it costs $69 to ship on four bags its says standard shipping and its like $8 make any sense to you?

4 bags may make "a case" or some sort of bulk packaging...and it may be shipped on a truck, versus being shipped through a parcel service such as UPS or FedEx.

well i may call the store saturday and find out about shipping you think i can convince them to do a vinegar test on it? lol if its good sand you need any??

I would ask them if they would. It can't hurt. Just tell them that you are wanting it for an aquarium and you need to know whether it is aragonite sand or not. They shouldn't need more than a half cup of sand and just a tablespoon of vinegar.

yeah maybe he will i have gone to every hardware store around hd lowes truevalue and ace and gotten samples with no luck so far

I was hopeing my mother in law could bring some in when she came to see the new baby but she flew in cheaper than driving! That ruined my plan for cheap southdown. If anyone can find it reasonable I would be in for a bunch. I could go with shipping if it wasn't a arm and leg.

I have family that lives in PA and NJ (where I have heard that it is easier to get). I am planning on making a couple of trips up there this summer and fall and might be able to bring back a bunch if I can locate some (I'll take orders from MTRC folks once I find a supplier and figure out the exact dates of my trips). My problem is that I have read stuff about name changes all over the place and I don't really know for sure what the name of the sand is that I should be looking for. In addition to Yardright Tropical Play Sand, I've heard that it goes by the name Old Castle and some other one I can't remember. It seems like it wouldn't matter as long as it is aragonite and clean, but I don't want to buy a few hundred pounds of the stuff, drive it 800 miles in my car, and then find out that it can't be used.

Brian,

I've got some I could give you a small sample of for comparison. I found someone with 13 boxes a few years ago and have one left over. I need a few more;).

Didn't someone on this forum know where to get a pallet shipped from? If there's not enough interest in MTRC and NTRC alone, I'm currently working/living in Memphis and wouldn't mind bringing some from Nashville to Memphis if there's interest in WTRC for a combined "groups order". I know of at least 2 more besides myself that'd be interested if it happened.
