Tom, I haven't seen much southdown available in some time. I know some are using the paly sand from bLowes.
 
I say this periodically... I have not heard anything changed, but when I was looking for Southdown about a year ago I called the Distributor.

They told me that they had lost their supplier in the carribean, and were not sure when they would have any more for sale. You might want to go a different route Tom.

There is some in the entrance at the Lowe's on Manchester in Ballwin that is really white. I thought about it but went with 2 40 lb bags of Reef Sand and added some of my established southdown with it.
 
It is a rare type of goose feather that is plucked in AL, MS, TN, KY, and FL used for making some of the finest pillows around.
 
Heh- I always thought it was kinda funny when people sell this stuff for that much then always throw in the old "I had to drive forever to get it" thing. It is what it is and it's worth what it's worth.....Who cares how far you had to drive to get it! It's your loss for buying too much :-P
