Southwest Aquaculture - thumbs up!

Just wanted to take a minute to share my experiences with Southwest Aquaculture in Tempe with everyone. I have to admit that I don't usually take the time to give feedback on the things that I buy, or services I use, but Southwest Aquaculture deserves some recognition for the store they have set-up and the services that they are providing. Not to overstate this, but to me, this feels like the future of reef stores - focus on high quality products, and a super clean store more than big displays, and a buzzilion additives, and products.

In addition to the high end corals, and products, Shane is great. I have spent quite a bit of time at the store picking his brain, and he is a wealth of information. I think that is my favorite part about the store: its basically a high end hobbyist that has set up a store because its what he enjoys, and not just a job, or a way to make money. It definitely shows.

Anyway, I feel like more and more lately, anytime you spend some time reading reviews of anything on Amazon, or any product/business anywhere on the internet, people go out of there way to slam, and give negative reviews and/or feedback about everything imaginable. I have tried to make it a point to give positive feedback when it is deserved, and Shane is doing a great job with this shop, and it is definitely a benefit to the reefers here in Arizona. Just my two cents.

shane is not in the business for money!!!! if you want quality at a cheap price this is your store. its not the store...... its what you have learned when you walk out the door!!

Chris it's obvious a business has to make money, however when it's not the primary focus the experience is different. That's the point that was being made, and I really appreciate those that take the time to share their positive comments. Negativity would be the foremost reason to desert this market because I'm definitely not here for the money.
Thanks again to all of you who support what we're trying so hard to accomplish!

thats the point exactly....
you have to pay the bills.
shane is a reefer just like the rest of us... the only difference is he made a huge sacrifice to open his store to help all the valley reefers.
you go to other stores as a newbee and they will say sure grab these nems and this tang they will be fine in your nano..... cause they want your money.
but not at his store you will be told the truth!!!!!

I happen to agree with Rocknut. Shane and his team have created something great in Southwest Aquaculture. I have no problem going in there and spending time asking questions because The information provided is honest and fair. As someone who is just getting back into reeding, Shane has been a wealth of knowledge. He has provided an install on product purchased at BRS (although I know know I could have ordered and had installed just as fast if ordered through SA). His fish are top notch. Not a huge selection but everything I have purchased there lives, eats well, has great colors, and have not been hiders. I am glad that SA is there and I hope he is making a profit.

I like the majority of the LFS we have, and I hope they all make enough profit to let them survive. I like being able to visit many lfs.

I really don't think anyone who has researched getting into this business thinks they are going to get rich. If so they were quickly disappointed. The margin for fish stores is pretty thin and it's really a labor of love, especially with how many stores we have in town now.
