Spawning S. haddoni

My purple S. haddoni carpet anemone spawned on Sunday! (only the actinics were on so it appears blue in the video)

The tank was cloudy and it did not take me long to realize why!

I took a few video clips. I sure wish my video camera was of better quality.

(Run time is just over 7 minutes)

That is neat. My blue one did that about 3 months ago. I also have a green one in the same tank, which didn't react at all to the spawning of the blue one.

What make them spawn like that ? Mine have never spawned in the 2 yrs for the blue one and 1 yr for the red that i have had them!

For mine, I believe it was the stress related to my main pump failing while I was in the hospital. I have had my tan one for about 10 years now, and it has never spawned.

Good question Charlie. The only recent change in my tank (other than adding a few other anemones) was a temperature increase.
I program my controller to increase the temp to 81 for the summer months (June, July and August).

Doni --- what was your temp before the increase? And do you keep a stable temp, or do you let it fluctuate?

The controller keeps a very stable temp with a 0.3 +/- fluctuation from the set temp.
I will need to review the code again to be sure but I think April and May were 79.0 and 80.0 respectively.
That would lead to a gradual increase in temp that might have induced the spawning event?

That is a good question (( and hopefully at some point we will be able to figure out exactly what caused the spawning event. )).

Last fall my 75 (( different tank then mentioned above that had a spawning event )) which has two other Haddonis in it, had a temp spike up to 90*. Stupid me had pulled the temp probe out of the sump, and it was a cool night. I figured this out 6 hours later, so I am not sure how long the tank was at 90*. But, nothing happened, no spawning, and everything in the tank looked/acted the same as always. My temps normally go from 78*-83*, so maybe that played some role in nothing happening.

Could be that they were 'used to' the fluctuation so the spike did not spark a spawning.
Also, being the fall season, was your lighting photo period shorter then? That may be a factor also.

I have a very long photo period of 15 hrs actinics and a total of 8 hours MH in my reef.

Yea, I really think that they were/are used to fluctuations so the spike didn't bother them. (( though the tank that did have a spawning event also has the same temp range -- though more "things" were out of whack with that tank )).

I keep my photo-period the same year round, with the MH being on for 6 hours on each tank.
