do they stay pretty small? my LFS has a few mantis and they are all spearers. I have a 2.5 thats im setting up for one. will it work? or should i just stick to smashers?

depends on the species, but many of them do stay small.

They also can be the largest of all stomatopods. Spearer is a functional name that includes the majority of stomatopods. The most common spearer to show up in shipments is Pseudosquilla ciliata. Maximum size is about 9.5 cm. They probably live 5 or 6 years.

i tried to get a pic of it but my camera wasnt working. this one was already 3.5" long.
