Ben,
I tried to send you a PM but you box was full... I was wondering how the Lumatek ballasts compared to the IceCap ballasts... I have a pair of the newer IceCap ballasts and like them, but I'm looking to add another MH to another system I'd like to set up... I will be using a Lumenarc SE pendant... Any info would be appreciated...

Thanks,
Randy

We missed the special Ricky... I'm still waiting on a reply... :( I've even tried posting on their forum to no avail... The only reply I got was from someone already running the IceCaps, and they said they loved them, which I already knew...

I saw that the special is over. I'm really bummed I missed out because with the coupon and sale price each ballast was $74.99 and now they're $129.99! For that price I may get the new IceCap 250's.

Tell me about it... I've been waiting over two weeks for a reply, well before the sale was over... I posted again in the MD forum... I'll let you know what I get for a reply...

I was all excited to have a reply to this thread, and then I found out you had the same dern question as I did!!! :D

Hi Folks,

We apologize for the late reply. We have contacted tech support for Lumatek and they will be posting on here for the details.

As for the product, we will honor the price. Send me a PM and i'll be sure to get you the right price when you want to purchase the ballast.

Any word from Lumatek yet ?

I have three EVC electronic ballasts which I bought as they were better performers than the original Icecap units. They are almost identical to the new Icecaps from the data I've seen. Anyway they work great except for totally disrupting the X10 exterior lighting controls installed in my house. Bought special X10 noise filters for each ballast and even a 220v phase coupler, without any help.

So I've been thinking about migrating to either M80 magnetic or another electronic ballast. Was looking at the new Icecap but would like to hear some more technical info about the Lumatek, since they make a distincting between e-ballast and electronic ballast. If Marine Depot (basically my exclusive dry goods source as I get fast shipping here in Arizona) will still honor the special pricing I'd definitely be willing to give them a try.

I'm still waiting on a reply... :(

I'm pretty surprised by the slow response... Its been 3 weeks now...

The e-ballast is a micro processor based ballast. On MD's website it even states that it comes with an RF shield.

"RF Shielded Output Cord
The Lumatek ballast comes with an attached 15ft. RF shielded output cord. Competing brands of digital ballasts which do not employ shielded cords can seriously disrupt radio and satellite TV signals for up to 50 yards. This interference may also disrupt the operation of pH equipment. The Lumatek ballast, if properly connected, will have minimal RF interference at less than 5 ft. and will not interfere with pH equipment. In order to ensure maximum RF shielding, the output cord must be wired directly to the socket. If the ballast is connected to an existing unshielded wire, it will cause radio and satellite television interference. Both ground wires should be grounded to the socket set for maximum RF interference suppression. If it is necessary to extend the output cord further than the 15ft. supplied, the customer should purchase RF shielded wire to lengthen the output cord."

PM Ben (lakerfan)... :) I don't think this applies to everyone... But since we have been posting for the past month, we're special... ;)
