The Speedwaves are basically the same pumps as the Waveline series (both Chinese manufactured), seems like they're highly efficient, but don't run them as an external or dry pump.

I really like their adjustability and relatively low wattage usage, and am personally waiting for the impending update to the 6000 model (I'm hoping it'll be out in the next few weeks):

so based on that thread seems like a lot of problems with the o-rings. I know i only read the first page but that wasn't very assuring. I will be running fully submerged so maybe it will be ok

Yep, I gathered the same. It also seems like the casing might be more delicate than expected.

I plan on running mine submerged, which negates the leakage issue, hopefully the newer models address the o-ring and casing problems.

That looks like the same pump that is being used on the Reef Octopus POV skimmers. If you're using it as a return pump you don't necessarily want to accidentally bump the feed option button too much.

Im using the rlss waveline dc5000 for my return pump. I love the ability to change the pump speed. It allowed me to dial in my overflow perfect. Its not really quiet like I read before buying. It does have a slight drone. Overall I would purchase again.
