Spineybox fish with ich

I just purchased the spineybox yesterday and added him to my tank, within a couple hours i started to notice white spots all over him and this morning when i woke up they were still there. Now i am assuming this is ich based on what i have read. What is the best way to cure him and keep my other fish from contracting it? I know with fresh water they make drops u can just add to the tank to kill off the ich. Do they make the same type of stuff for salt water tanks?(if so is it even safe to use?). I dont have much to work with as in terms of separation into a seprate tank. i jsut have a seprate 5 gallon travel type tank(the plastic ones for reptiles or gold fish). any help with be greatfully appriciated, if it requires certain fods or medicine were can i get it LFS, Petco's, food stores etc).

So im gonna place the spineybox in the 5 gallon tank and try to hyposalinity the tank to get rid of the ick, but since i have snails and hermit crabs in my main tank and it says i cant do that since teh snails will die off how might i be able to get rid of any of the ick that has moved on to stage two and already can off the spineybox?

Always quartine before placing in the display, that is how you prevent it from infecting everything. Since it is already in there, remove all fish from the display for 6-8 weeks. The ick should go through its life cycle and be dead. How big is the box puffer? It may be worth the $10 for a 10 gallon tank to use instead of the 5. Also hypo may not work, I have never had sucess with it. I would do a treatment of copper if it is infact ick.

puffer is fairly small(im at work now so cant take pictures i would say its about 2/3 the size of a credit card and about an inch-an inch and a half thick. but the problem would coem if i had to quarentine all of the fish i dont have too many in there but still too many for a 10 gallon tank and i dont have anywhere to put a 20 gallon tank. im hoping when i get home from work today everythign is still fine and i can just take out hte puffer and work from there(hoping that in 4-6 weeks when the puffer is hopefully healed, no signed of ick showed up on the others. Also where can i get teh copper from the LPS(thats not a petco) to me is fairly far, woudl petco have the copper?(is the copper the same stuff as those blue drops you get for freshwater ick(pbviously just the salt water version of it)

i quarentined my puffer and i am adding copper safe to the tank(but it doesnt say how often it just says it could take up to six weeks? does anyone know if i add the coppersafe every day once a week or how often?

Hi thommyboy12183,

Follow the directions on the bottle you purchsed. That IMO is the best way when dealing with copper.

test the levels in the water to make sure its reaching therapeutic levels and not to much or to little.

It says on the bottle that the treatment is good for one month. This means that you add it once, and leave it alone! Do not add more!!!
