JELWYOMING
Somewhere, I believe that I've read that spiny puffers shed lays of skin sometimes. I have one that's been in with just a lionfish for about a month. Over the last few days a blotch over his forehead has been peelilng off. It doesn't look infected, but I want to make sure that it's not ich. He had been QT'd as well. All water parameters are good, though alkalinity is on the high side at 12dkh. Anything to worry about?

that doesn't sound like shedding to me. can you describe it better, or better yet, post a picture?

Shedding of the skin is not normal. Could be a bacterial infection, increased mucous production secondary to parasitic infection or injury.

A pic would help with the diagnosis.

I will see what I can get. Though it has cleared now more than 75%. It was light colored, though not white and mainly around the horn above one eye. He'd been QT'd for quite a while not showing any signs of illness. I put him in with the lionfish and 2 damsels 2-3 weeks ago now before this appeared.
