Only half of the eggs hatched last night and the rest of the eggs still look fine. Can I just leave the pot in the larvae tank and hatch out the rest tonight? Will the larvae that hatched last night survive and be ok without any rotifers until tomorrow?
Why not put rotifers while the other eggs haven't hatched. Whenever I've gotten split hatches, I've separated them. It has been my experience that one day's growth makes a difference in development where the younger ones will not get "their fair share".
I just don't have any more tanks to separate them. Guess I will stop at the store after work and get another 10g tank to separate them. I just thought I could maybe jut wait until tomorrow when they all hatched to start feeding them rotifers and green water. I have read that the eggs may spoil if I feed rotifers and green water during a split hatch.
I would put the pot back with the parents for them to tend to the remaining eggs but definitely feed the oned that have hatched.
I have learned from my experience on a batch that hatched in three nights. There is a huge difference in the ones that hatched on the first night compared to the ones that hatched on the third night.
I didn't have time to go to the store to get another tank so I jut left the pot in the larvae tank and I fed the ones that hatched some rotifers, but no green water. The others hatched out last night and they all look good to me. Guess time will tell if its was a success. Thanks for the input.
I would do what Mwilliam said what ever eggs are left over in the morning put back so the parent care for the eggs try to but the pot same angle u don't want to mess with their cycle n eat the eggs but I tried it n it works . So on the next day when lights about to go off place pot back to rearing tank n wait they should hatch then. If they don't repeat the process again , larvae can stay alive for 36 hr some expert seen them going for 3 days but I wouldn't risk 3 days
