Spondylus spp.?

My local store has one of these available, with a mantle length of about 4" approximately. It responds well from light stimuli, but they haven't had it for very long.

I can find very little information on it, and what I can find is that it is for the most part, it doesn't contain symbiotic algae in it's mantle, and that it will require heavy filter feeding.

It's marked as a "Thorny Oyster," if that helps anyone. One of the employees looked up the scientific name for me, but none of them really knew anything about it.

Because the RC search function is disable right now, I couldn't really check and see if someone had posted anything regarding these guys.

It's really cool looking! General care? Do they not fair well in captivity, like flame scallops? Any information any one can provide would be nice, as I googled it and came up with very little.

Thanks, but it's the same problem. I'm not a premium member, so I can't access the search function, including links to searches already done. Thank you though. I figured they were short lived...probably require a large amount of food on a consistent basis.
